Amazon's Jeff Bezos made history Tuesday with the first all-civilian suborbital flight into space.

Jeff Bezos, the 57-year-old founder of Amazon, has a new title to add to his résumé: astronaut.

on a rocket-powered vehicle designed by his own space tourism company, Virgin Galactic. Both flights — combined with the competition between the rival billionaires — have captured global attention and garnered interest and enthusiasm for the nascent space tourism industry.“I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like. People who go into space say that they come back changed,” Bezos told “TODAY” co-host Hoda Kotb. “I can’t wait to see what it’s going to do to me.

Although Bezos’ suborbital experience was similar to Branson’s, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic operate with different flight profiles. Virgin Galactic’s rocket-powered Unity craft launches from a carrier airplane from an altitude of 50,000 feet and is flown by two onboard pilots. Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket and capsule launch vertically and are designed to fly autonomously.

Bezos’ flight was a critical milestone for Blue Origin and the commercial spaceflight industry, which until now has been dominated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Both Branson’s and Bezos’ flights could open up a potentially lucrative new market for high-priced trips to the edge of space. “The flights with these billionaires is good for exposure and attracts attention, but what’s going to add confidence is regularity,” Caceres said. “It’ll be important for these companies to show that they can do lots of flights with no significant problems and no major accidents.”

Didn’t Alan Shepard already do this in the 60’s in an analog capsule with less computing power than an apple watch?

Mark Bezos Haahahhahaha

More like Oliver Gaemen

Morning_Joe Why do u keep talking about this billionaire clown 🤡 playing with his toys who pays no taxes!! He didn't go anywhere!!

JAllenSJones

i wish they hadn’t

Damn shame he made it back safe.

Booooooooooo

Lol his gay ass cowboy hat.

1%-er

So Bezos is into edging big deal

Only the edge. Seems like someone doesn’t have full clearance.

So “1961”

JeffBezos 👎🖕🏻🚀🖕🏻🚀🖕🏻🚀🖕🏻🚀🖕🏻🚀🤑🤑🤑

pay taxes bitch

Do you think his girlfriend gave him that regrettable cowboy hat? Or did he seek it out himself....pr rather have an assistant find him a space hat.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Just look at the following image, courtesy of NASA. The data points depict pieces of garbage orbiting our planet.

I think we have solved all the problems in the world, now we have time for trips to space. I'm interested to know how many hungry people would have been fed by the cost of this trip, which ended in a few minutes...

yay, clap for the billionaire

NOOOO

I must look into this. Didn't Richard Branson do something similar last week?

ZbyszekKrak jusz oblecieli ten kosmos? co tak szybko?

Whatevs. Can we make sure we collect taxes from Bezos, Branson, et al.?

Who cares pandemic homelessness foodinsecurity bezosisadick

Morning_Joe Who cares

Morning_Joe While he is up in space, can he find the Amazon delivery 🚚 that has my package? It’s been 3 days and the tracking keeps saying it’s 8 stops away.

Morning_Joe No thanks.

I think Jeff should write a book now.

Rating Virgin Galactic 10/10 Blue origin 6/10 Blue origin is like the same rockets by NASA but virgin Galactic is a plane and when virgin landed there was no rescue workers and they did by themselves but blue origin took lots of time after landing so several rescue workers came

Jeff Bezos launched into space. Free re-entry with Amazon Prime.

🙄 this does not impress me. What is impressive is when I see the rich do something with their money for people living in poverty. Kaepernick7, Bono from U2. They are doing something worthwhile with their money. That's impressive not rich guys spending 5 minutes in space.

Q: How far can you go into space by not paying your fair share of taxes? A: Nearly 330,000 feet, or roughly 62 miles above the Earth.

Seriously……. Underwhelmed….., Very Rich 🤑 people and expensive toys. Ok it’s an ego trip, that’s it Just wait until one of these goes horribly wrong 😑

Lots of jealous people here dude spends his own money on what's important to him he doesn't care about any of us that's the billionaire way

Just think how many people the money spent here could have helped. Shame!

boo

Congratulations Mr Jeff Bezos..

Pay more taxes!

A smashing success or a crash landing are the only two scenarios that’ll get me to tune in. Sorry. Not sorry.

Morning_Joe Don’t come back. Stay up there. We don’t need you and your greedy personality back in this world.

Morning_Joe I am so unimpressed by this man's narcissistic quest. As far as I'm concerned, he has done enough damage here on earth.

Morning_Joe I thought the object was to go to space he only got to the edge of it so this was a failure

Call me when one of these idiots actually lands on the moon...and stays there.

Morning_Joe The idolatry your network showers on Bezos is sickening.

EribertoArias Yeah because reporting on every selfish whim of a Billionaire is so important. Sighhh so what is next, showing a Billionaire say 'you're fired'. Have we not learned?

Are you kidding, you call them astronauts? They’ve been to space for 5 minutes and they get that designation? What about the men and women who work very hard and made it their life mission to contribute to the field? You better pick another name!

He should thank vaccines.

TODAYshow

Morning_Joe WHO CARES! Another billionaire boondoggle! But Amazon keeps delivering OTHER PEOPLE'S PACKAGES to my door! Hmmmmm!

Don't hurry back

Morning_Joe No one (NASA) has ever been able to land “on land and upright”. Very impressed. Just like the old space movies of the 1950’s.

NASA did this 60 years ago

I think it's a slap in the face to actual astronauts to call these rocket riders astronauts...I put a bandage on a cut, that doesn't make me a doctor...

This was as exciting as when I watched space launches as a child on a black & white TV in an elementary school classroom. I love innovative minds.

Retailing space for future $ and round trip tickets for everyday working people !

Correction: BREAKING: Jeff Bezos reaches the edge of space in a penis shaped rocket.

The money that this Billionaire spent could have been better spent to help mankind. He is selfish to the end.

Breaking: Jeff Bezos reaches out to America's Hungry and Homeless. And also, offers to pay taxes. Now, that's a headline I'd like to see.

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin Targets Bigger Space GoalsJeff Bezos' launch Tuesday is a small step as it tries to make a giant leap in winning government contracts and competing with Elon Musk’s SpaceX Makes sense. Space being either a duopoly or oligopoly would make it consistent with where other markets in American capitalism have been going. ¡Ve a Dios y luego quédate allí! For the good of humanity we can only hope the spaceship explodes on live stream.

Jeff Bezos says he's curious how space is 'going to change me' ahead of historic flightAmazon founder Jeff Bezos is set to launch to the edge of space on Tuesday, fulfilling a lifelong dream and ushering in a new era of space tourism via the first crewed flight from his private space-faring firm Blue Origin. 'I have just been dreaming of this really my whole life, but I don't know what it's going to mean for me,' Bezos told ABC News' Michael Strahan. 'People say they see the thin limb of the Earth's atmosphere, it teaches them how fragile and precious the planet is, how there are there no boundaries,' Bezos added. Hey Jeff, please open an Amazon location in space. The Martians want to order some products from Earth and they want Prime delivery to Mars. Presumably he'll bring a bottle to pee in to keep the schedule. Grow a small sprout of empathy for humankind maybe? Probably too much to expect.
