Alibaba co-founder Joseph Tsai is close to becoming majority owner of the Brooklyn Nets in a deal that would mark the highest price ever paid for a U.S. professional sports franchise

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. co-founder Joseph Tsai is close to a deal to become majority owner of the National Basketball Association’s Brooklyn Nets.

The deal, which is expected as soon as this week according to a person familiar with the matter, would be for the remaining 51% of the team Mr. Tsai doesn’t already own.
