The Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Neu Neu Magazine hopes to create a platform for a new generation of creatives.

This story originally appeared in up + rising, a celebration of extraordinary Black voices, and is the first chapter of i-D's 40th anniversary issue .

i-D chronicled over 100 activists and artists, musicians and writers, photographers and creatives, in Atlanta, Baltimore, Minneapolis, LA, London, New York, Paris and Toronto. “I think a lot can obviously be said of all the bad that 2020 gave us but instead I want to focus on the positives, the inspiration, things we’ve learned. This year taught me about a new kind of privilege that comes with the colour of my skin. Being Black means being part of a community of women who fight hard, love hard and work hard to create a positive space for the people around them, people like Oluwatoyin Salau and Breonna Taylor.

If there's anything that this year taught me it's that there's a privilege to being us, being me, and being part of this community. It reminded me that the biggest leaders of this revolution are my peers and the people I surround myself with. Most importantly, this year made me question how I plan to make an impact or create a legacy. I hope that with the platform I'm creating with Neu Neu Magazine that the next generation of Black creatives see how easy it is to create your own space and be your own leader. I’m so inspired by Black youth. And it’s time for brands, publications, and companies in this industry to give them the shine that they deserve.
