The assistant director yelled"cold gun" before the shooting that killed, 42, and wounded director Joel Souza on the set of"Rust" at Bonanza Creek Ranch, according to an affidavit filed in a Santa Fe court.
The assistant director did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday, nor did the armorer. Audio released Friday from a 911 call shows someone reported that two people had been shot by a prop gun on the set. The search warrant document says that Hutchins was shot in the chest and Souza, who was struck in the shoulder, was behind her.
The production company, Rust Productions, said it was not aware of any official complaints about weapon or prop safety on set, but pledged an internal review. Her husband, Matt, said that the loss was enormous and asked for privacy as the family grieves. He said he has spoken with Baldwin and the actor was being very supportive.
Why would and movie weapon ever be loaded with live ammunition?
How many bad movies have been produced revolving about a gun loaded with real ammunition to setup/frame an actor for killing someone on the set? Just to ruin someone’s acting careers!
I don't understand why, with all the technology available today, they don't just use guns that look and feel real but are fake. They could add the sound and smoke of a real gun later. If they can add what looks like breath to make it seem cold, they can do it.
Why is there live ammunition on a movie set
Of course but why was he pointing it at people off camera?
Still don’t understand why it was pointed at anyone…someone needs to be charged with neglect at the very least.
Aside from the meme I posted to try and make light of this tragedy. My question would be - Why the fuck would you need live rounds on a movie set? That's just idiocy.
Brandon Lee vibes
This is so tragic. I hope they find out how it happened.
He should have been taught how to check his weapon before he was allowed to handle one. No one handling a firearm should do so while ignorant of how they work or the kinds of loads that go in them and if on a set the difference between blank and real ammunition! Everyone!
Well the smart thing to do would have been to check the gun. Here we go with the Haines up in the air. Watch this get swept under the rug instead of somebody taking responsibility.
Homicide is homicide.
Is that still considered irresponsible use of a firearm? The person firing the weapon should know personally what is and or isn't loaded in it.
Live ammunition? A real bullet? Please define.
That means both people should be charged with man-slaughter
I guess no other news is happening as this is all NBC news is reporting
Someone knew and they’re in trouble
And he didn't know that you never shoot directly at the camera for just these situations.
But he knew it was a gun…? Right?…
A gun that shoots live ammunition isn’t exactly a “prop,” is it? It’s a gun. A real gun. Can NBC “News” report anything on its own or does the whole news department just regurgitate press releases and interview celebrities selling movie tickets?
Working in a HURRY, shortcuts, NOT following protocol, what could possibly go wrong?🙄🙄🙄
This sounds a lot like what happened to Brandon Lee.
Trumper sabotage.
They are both supposed to check the gun before putting it into use.
I believe him.
That's why there should be quality assurance checks prior to shooting It's a big failure in the movie industry to my point of view This death could have been prevented and Alec Baldwin wouldn't have to live the rest of his life thinking of this....
It was a set up.
Should have taken a NRA gun Safety Class, Rule 1, treat all guns if they are loaded ... My guess negligence, which is manslaughter
Totally, the truth. However, someone did not do their job correctly to allow that gun on the set. It certainly needs a thorough investigation because something really seems 'off' about this. It probably wasn't the intention, the way it unfolded but was there an intention ?
So the the next question would be why did the AD pick up the gun and then why did Alec shoot it? If you don’t know if it’s loaded or not, maybe you should examine it, perhaps? It was sitting next to two other guns. What are they doing? Playing the shell game with loaded firearms?
Ignorance is no defense As such a devout Anti gunner NoRA activist he should have been extra cautious.
Protocol should be that it’s checked for bullets at every touch point
We’ll OF COURSE he didn’t know, WHY would any gun be loaded with live ammunition on a freaking movie set?!?
That makes 2 counts of negligence.
