Alabama is asking a court to swiftly set a new execution date for Alan Eugene Miller, who had his lethal injection called off last month after multiple failed attempts to connect an intravenous line to his veins. alnews deathrow alabamanewsnetwork

The Alabama attorney general’s office in the Tuesday court filing asked the Alabama Supreme Court to set a new execution date for Miller. The state did not give a timeframe, but asked the justices to take the matter up before deciding a pending execution date request involving another inmate.

Miller’s attorneys are expected to fight the effort to set a new execution date. U.S. District Judge R. Austin Huffaker Jr., at the request of Miller’s attorneys, ordered Alabama to preserve notes and medical materials from the failed execution attempt.

Alan Miller claims AL prison workers looked for vein in failed execution for 90 minutesAlan Miller — the death row inmate Alabama tried to execute last month — says that after repeated attempts to find a vein in his arms, hands, and feet, the ADOC team started observing his neck for veins in an attempt to start a central line procedure. Why is the state putting so much effort into killing someone!? The constitutionality of the lethal injection needs to be examined. Alabama should not be allowed to do executions if they can't do it without torturing people. I take the word of a convicted killer with more value than I do ADOC.
