It's still 'unknown' history.Sylvia Mendez and her Latino parents paved the way for desegregation in Mendez v Westminster but this Hispanic civil rights contribution is not largely known. Thank you for sharing this! Too bad it isn’t taught in schools. This case is a horrible case to cite, in that Westminster & the Mendezes settled on the stipulation that Mexicans were to be considered 'white'. Earlier in the 1930s, Mexicans fought to be considered white, even demonstrating for this. They should shut-up about this case. Shame! I teach this case to my elementary students through the picture book, Separate Is Never Equal.
