Rep. Adam Schiff, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, called for an inspector general investigation of the Trump Justice Department on Thursday after a report said that his phone records, along with those of aides and another member of the committee, had been seized — what he condemned as a “terrible abuse of power.”
Rep. Eric Swalwell of California confirmed on Thursday that he was the second committee Democrat whose records were seized, telling CNN that he was notified by Apple. As for Garland’s role, Schiff said that the current attorney general had a responsibility to “clean house,” and that it would be at least a decade before the department recovered from politicization.
“These actions appear to be yet another egregious assault on our democracy waged by the former president,” Pelosi said in a statement. “I support Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s call for an investigation into this situation and other acts of the weaponization of law enforcement by the former president. Transparency is essential.”
Is anyone going to ask Shifty how this is any different from his subpoena of Congressional Republicans phone records? Why is this anymore “harrowing” than what he did?

There was once a time when the FBI was spying on a American presidential campaign. Schiff cracks me up, he leaks worse than a sieve, then calls for an investigation when the original investigators were trying to figure out who was leaking. BTW, he was leaking classified info.
Yeah ... we just had an IG report by the DOJ regarding Trump's Photo Shoot, and it was a clear cover up of Trump's Abuse of Power. I don't trust Garland to handle this or an internal review. We need a Special Prosecutor assigned, independent of DOJ.

Hope everyone realizes an IG report carries no legal weight. They normally result in a report of if findings and recommendations to the agency they are investigating. The agency responds to recommendations with rebuttal, acceptance, or modifications. That’s pretty much it.

One would think with Garland in there for several months, he would have come to know about and would have started cleaning up if he was doing his job. Garland's behavior and inaction just doesn't add up. If he thinks protecting DoJ is his job, Biden should replace him.
