The National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory is in effect for the entire West Coast and Alaska in the wake of an undersea volcanic eruption near Tonga. In this satellite image taken by Himawari-8, a Japanese weather satellite, and released by the agency, shows an undersea volcano eruption at the Pacific nation of Tonga, Jan. 15, 2022.

Nearly all coastal areas in California, Oregon, Washington, Southeast Alaska, South Alaska, the Alaskan Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands are under a tsunami advisory. British Columbia is also under advisory. A tsunami advisory means that a tsunami could produce strong currents or waves near the coastline. However, a tsunami advisory does not indicate a major tsunami event where water is actively entering coastal communities. In this circumstance, the tsunami is only dangerous to those in the water, or on the immediate beach -- like swimmers and boaters.ABC News' Daniel Manzo contributed to this report.

Editor's note: This story's headline has been updated to report that a tsunami advisory, not a warning, was issued.

This is a normal king tide (winter high tide) at the Beach Ave sea wall in Pacifica.

You know sometimes people say “ I wouldn’t do that sh*t if I was you” that’s referring to them.

The moment where the neighbor raises his hands in exultation is like a scene from 'Don't Look Up'.. except this is real life human behavior in the face of tragedy...when will we awaken to be more compassionate to the victims of this tsunami; to recognize & act instead of gawking?

I'll keep my non swimming ass right here in middle Tennessee😆 Yall crazy

'come in the patio' 👀👀

And then we're suppossed to feel bad for a moron that gets sucked into the sea for not listening to safety warnings. Sorry but no, natural selection.

😔

Cheery waving at the camera and 'it is happening y'all!' Reckon the residents in the Pacific are approaching it with such enthusiasm? Jesus, talk about blissful ignorance.

. .. and gott yelled at

Wow! People here acting like they’re concerned for your safety. But they just wanted to come on Twitter and look for someone to be a jerk to. (Be safe… idiot) Nice.

Yall keep playing like this is a game. Go head get tf out of there why are yall staying around shit like that can change in seconds then your done.

As always, the news has to squirt tragedy all over every media screen. Ocean waves are a typical sight in Pacifica. I only live 8 miles North at the beach. Nothing to see here.

Are they daft? Or trying to be brave?

Certain folks always think it’s a game

I don't think its going to break the dam, but they should move away from the sea immediately.

And Tonga is so far away! I hope that the east coast of Australia stays safe.

People not taking it seriously. They could be sucked out to sea at any moment.

Good thing you are all vaccinated.

So BROOKLYN Podcast Episodes 40 “BROOKLYN wave” via YouTube

If yall don't get yall tail to safety instead of standing outside smiling like this is normal.

Let’s hope not!

Those are just medium size waves, a tidal surge would be a continuous flow of ocean water that would not stop at that seawall.

Oh my Lord!!! maile_everett DeborahKozich

Time to run for the hills, literally.

is this the time we have all talked about where california is gonna fall off the map? :( im scared.

I mean at least nobody was hurt but yall must be crazy standing there🤨

Since when did a volcano (with imperfect perimeter) have a near perfect circular shock wave with that kind of speed. Looks more like a detonation to me.

B4 I go. Uuuuuuummmm those judges. Going to need law changes b/c the power they yield, concerning. Brandon Scott Price.

Why didn’t you guys move inland like the new said?

are they stupid?

I always stand in the path of a tornado. It's fun! Ya'll are crazy as hell.

Mira al idiota filmando un video con el celular, al borde del muro.

best not surf if that is a large wave to you

You know this new movie called don’t look up where 'muricans ignore an asteroid threat? Well if you look over there in real life, there are stupid Americans denying a possible tsunami threat.

kewl kewl

Must be global warmings fault. We've never had volcanoes erupt ever. All the sudden, boom.

Woooooo.

Anti-vaxxer/science denier replies: 'A Tsunami ain't one size fits all! This is another lie from Fauci.'

See you down in Arizona Bay.

Hawaii Now

Am I the only one who sees a white tiger head? My impending feeling doom just increased significantly.

Tonga

I wish you well that 1 person that lives in Alaska god bless you...

Will the Tsunami activity affect Queensland Australia, it’s just my mum lives there

Bye bye California. Hello Beach front property in Nevada.

Imagine thinking ur tougher then a tsunami. A tsunami!

Was the volcano birth or it's always been there?

Why does the explosion not move any clouds out of the way?

A passing thought said maybe those 3 lil tests gave that volcano a tickle as I read the headline.

BMT094 God is trying to tell us something.

morgfair And it’s SCIENCE that explains volcanoes, Tsunamis and weather. So take the vaccine, wear the mask, care for others.

Research Al Bielek, he said he was told that this had happened, sometime between the years of 2020-2025, that the west coast, much of it, would be underwater. This news here is chilling.
