“Scène de rue à Montmartre” is a landscape showing a famous windmill.

, which depicts the Moulin de la Galette, a windmill in Montmartre when it was still a relatively pastoral suburb of Paris, was painted by Van Gogh in 1887 and has been owned by the same French family for more than 100 years.

Van Gogh featured the windmill in multiple paintings he completed during the two years he lived in Paris with his brother Theo. It’s one of the last paintings from this period in Van Gogh’s life that remains in private hands, Sotheby’s said in a statement. The painting will be exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam and Hong Kong at Sotheby’s locations before it goes to auction March 25.

The work will be sold in a partnership between Sotheby’s and Parisian auction house Mirabaud Mercier, and the sellers are descendants of the painting’s
