It has been two years since Amanda Blackburn, the pregnant wife of an Indianapolis pastor, was fatally wounded during a home invasion on Nov. 10, 2015. Here's a look at the case that captured the nation's attention. The murder case against Larry Jo Taylor has been trudging toward a trial in the Marion Superior Court system for nearly seven years.
Hawkins broke the news to the jury Monday morning as they sat down to begin the trial. He said the case had a"tortured" life in the courts. Taylor is one of three men police say were involved in a string of robberies on the city's north side in November 2015 that ended with Blackburn's death. Two of Taylor's co-defendants, Diano Gordon and Jalen E. Watson, have accepted plea agreements and are scheduled to testify against Taylor in trial.
"The state and the court cooperated unbelievably to make sure he got a chance to do things from the jail," Hawkins told IndyStar. He took witness statements and prepared his own motions.
