A Crowded School Hallway Photo Went Viral. Some Teachers And Parents Say The Real Situation Is Even Worse

Behind a viral photo of a crowded hallway at a high school in Georgia, a potentially dire situation is brewing.

“Days before school even started, they knew that many of the football players were sick,” said a person familiar with the issues at the high school. “They knew from before day one that it wasn't going to work.” The district superintendent, Brian Otott, sent a message to parents in the wake of the photo. He offered “context” for the photograph: “Class changes that look like this may happen, especially at a high school with more than 2,000 students.” There was little the district could do, he said, beyond encouraging masks.

North Paulding teachers said they, too, felt they had no choice but to show up to work, even after a staff member texted colleagues saying she had tested positive for the virus. The staffer had attended planning sessions while exhibiting symptoms, one teacher said. Amy, a school nurse, resigned from Paulding County Schools in July over concerns about virus safety. She said under the school district’s plan, school nurses were supposed to act as contact tracers for thousands of kids and staff, and that a district plan to sequester children believed to be exposed until their parents could pick them up seemed insufficient. In a resignation letter she shared with BuzzFeed News, she wrote, “Masks are not a ‘personal choice’ during a pandemic.

Why aren’t we using broadcast TV stations and over the air antenna capable stations to broadcast education?

My daughter is a teacher she has RA since 16 she teaches special need kids at her alma Mater she takes hydroxychloroquine for her RA she’s 29 gives her lot of rapid heartbeats dizziness blur vision and she still teaching she loves her kids but we loved her to I’m very concerned🙏

The kid that took this picture was just suspended because of posting the picture

How can anyone leverage the safety of children/teachers/humans and call themselves a rational citizen of a democracy. The MAGAVATED excluded, that’s a while other degree of batshittery that has assured over medicating will be considered necessary.

pauldingboe the fact that you're endangering thousands of students and staff by not going completely online is horrifying. if what the article says is true and you punish students and staff for speaking out - horrendous good thing others can speak for them

Grim Reaper GovKemp will take no responsibility for this.

What Kushner's team said: 'Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner's team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.'

Sure, sure. I’d sue if they tried this.

One simple solution to the 'hallway' situations is, if these moronic schools are not going to mandate masks, why not make them mandatory in the hallways only? Seems to me that's where most of the kids congregate. How hard would this be? The most simple things are not being done

I don't understand. If parents and teachers know the situation is so bad--worse than we think--why do they participate in this madness?

This is revolting. This school should be shut down. The principal stated “that any student found criticizing the school on social media could face disciplinary consequences” How can you *not* criticize this school? It’s a dangerous situation for everyone in it! Get. Out. Now!

“Despite recommendations from CDC health officials, the district has called mask-wearing a “personal choice” and said that social distancing “will not be possible to enforce” in “most cases.”

THEN WHY DID THEY SEND THEIR KIDS?

I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m still shocked that masks are optional in a place where all these people are stuck inside together. I’m very grateful Indiana has a mask mandate!

This is a nightmare and Kemp will be responsible. You can’t hide dead bodies

Thank you so much! ❤️Nurse Amy!

Kindergarten teacher says her concern for new school year is not guaranteeing students' safety“My biggest concern with being in person is that I can’t guarantee to my students and my parents that they’re going to be safe,” Emily Christman, a kindergarten teacher in Roslindale, Massachusetts, says. Like all teachers she is lazy and does not want to work When I was in college I observed the students going into education were the dumbest people I met. The courses for an education major were among the easiest therefore attracted lazy flakes. You couldn’t have guaranteed that before the Virus. No one could. Things happen during the school year.
