MEXICO CITY—In early September, 12-year-old Zulma Gonzalez grew exasperated. Zulma, who suffers from Type 1 diabetes and is at risk of having a serious illness with Covid-19, had been trying to get vaccinated for months to feel safe enough to return to school and have a normal life again.
A week after the video, Mexico’s government agreed to vaccinate up to 1 million minors age 12 to 17 deemed at risk, including those with diabetes, cancer or other preconditions. It said it had no plans to vaccinate minors without pre-existing conditions, an estimated 12 million adolescents. “Given all this, the effects of this ruling are extended not only for this minor, but for all those under 18,” Judge Claudia Gamez wrote in her ruling.
“Scientists around the world understand that this problem will not end until we have a significant portion of the population vaccinated, and this has to include children,” said Laurie-Ann Fyvie, a microbiologist at UNAM, Mexico’s largest public university. One of the questions was from Zulma, who asked if she was at risk from Covid-19 because she had Type 1 diabetes. Mr. Lopez-Gatell responded that yes, any person with pre-existing conditions should take special precautions to protect themselves.

That's a lie; fake news. Nunca se cambió la estrategia de vacunación. Se dijo, desde el comienzo, que se vacunaría a menores de 12 a 17 años con comorbilidades graves, después de vacunar a los mayores de 18. Y eso es justo lo que se hizo.

Vaccination for Minors is just beginning in Mexico, the priority was adults for obvious reasons, my daughter is 12 years old and is already vaccinated and we live in Mexico the question is that there are no vaccines for everyone at this stage, in the next stage cover the same.

complete bullshit, the plan has always been to vaccinate minors with commorbidities after adults had finished receiving the vaccine, the controversial decision at the time was not choosing to vaccinate EVERY child above 12, a stance that remains unchanged.

She managed to get a fed judge to rule in her favor due to risk factors and the govt didn't have a choice. After many more of such rulings, the court ordered to vaccinate everyone 12+ regardless of risk factors. Govt responded saying they would challenge the court's ruling. 🤦🏻♂️
