ON THIS DAY: In 1945, during World War II, the U.S. B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb code-named “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, Japan, resulting in an estimated 140,000 deaths.

+On Aug. 6, 1945, the Enola Gay, an American B-52 bomber, dropped the first of two atomic bombs used in WWII on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later, the U.S. dropped the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki to force Japan to surrender. An estimated 140,000 people died from the bombing of Hiroshima, not including those who died in the years afterwards due to cancer and other effects.

The only way !!!

Nothing to say I’m sorry for, if bombs were not used. The war would have gone on and more lives would have died. More than 140k and some of us would not be here today.

GMA Mochiagete, tokihanashite...

WE did not drop the bomb. The US govt in 1945 did. WE CAN'T change this horrific and terrible event. WE CAN learn from it. WE SHOULD NEVER repeat it.

On this day Sally Yates testified James Comey went rogue. Why no coverage ABC? Do you only cover one side and that is the side that meets your agenda?

Pray for Hiroshima Japan. 💐🙏🏽

Thank you Harry S Truman.

Japan attacked a military installation. America bombed the civilian population.

But you won’t talk about the fact that 1. Japan committed atrocities in Asia 2. Japan attacked the US first 3. Japan’s military was ruthless and wasn’t going to surrender 4. If we didn’t drop the bombs, we would’ve invaded the Japanese mainland with the Soviets, killing millions.

PREVENTED FUTILE ESCALATION AND SAVED MANY LIVES ON BOTH SIDES

not good

not only Japanese also some Koreans and few other countries , even Americans, were killed.

Thank God our brave boys dropped that bomb that led to the end of the war. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

'Civilian deaths'..there I fixed it for you

The bombs ended a war that was launched AGAINST US. Even Japan acknowledges today that many more lives were SAVED by the war ending before a land invasion was necessary. But of course America-hating leftists have their dishonest agenda. 🙄 We still have nukes, so 🖕 lefties.

Save Thousands of American Lives

GMA we talking about the greatest terror in history of the world . this was unnecessary

macattack_mr DONALD wins with 160,000 so far!

It was horrible for Japan and shame for the rest of world.

Japan's version of 'when keepin it real goes wrong'

Yes. I remember every December 7th

Damn.

Встаньте на колени перед японцами

You can see the Enola Gay at the Smithsonian Air Museum annex in the DC suburbs.

If the millennials had been running the country back then the Enola Gay would have dropped notes apologizing for previous bombing missions. And the name of the aircraft would have been Enola LGBTQI+

GMA Pearl Harbor!!! That's all

In memory of the 'Arizona' victims in Pearl Harbour in december 1941 !

Then, Nagasaki...

140,000 deaths with a single strike is huge and unimaginable, still don’t understand why America has not officially apologized for this since 1945,was the atomic bomb the last resort to end the Second World War.

Kashmir. August 5 vs Aug 6. Aug 5/2019 Indian government led by BJP removed Kashmir’s autonomy followed by new domicile law that allows nonKashmiris to settle in Kashmir. It is annihilation of Kashmiri race without dropping a nuclear weapon, Rwanda genocide without mass murder

US govt is the biggest terrorist organization of modern history. The list of USA Heinous crimes against humanity is long.

US Army is the biggest and most cruel terrorist organization in world history.

No retaliation ?

Another great achievement of the 🇺🇸

The result of the bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the surrender of the Japanese and the end of the war in the Pacific and Asia which claimed ~2mm lives.

Every time I review this part of human history, the question I still find myself asking is 'What if it was never dropped?' Would there have been more lives (American and Japanese) lost in a prolonged conflict? Would nuclear weapons ever be made if this never dropped?

That's why I hate history

God Bless America

Thus paving the way for the end of hostilities between the two countries and likely preventing the future deaths of anywhere between 2x - 10x as many people.

America sucked then and continues to suck now.

Were the Bombs Necessary to End the 2nd world war?

A largely peaceful mission.

In a flash, a changed worldFrom ReutersGraphics: It took just a few years to develop the first atomic weapon. Seventy-five years after the U.S. dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, humanity is still coming to grips with the results Graphics It would be better for us all if we could find a way to eliminate these weapons. Graphics Despite ending one of the most catastrophic self inflicted human tragedies, the detonation of such over a densely populated civilian center marks one of the darkest days in human history. Graphics Now obsolete as a weapon of war, in fact I have to wonder if the mad rush to build them was missing the point. Nobody wins a nuclear conflict!
