Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's split has turned toxic as the former couple have been hit with wild claims of boozing and explosive rows.

The singer, 26, and her actor husband, 29, confirmed their break-up over the weekend, insisting they wanted to keep their separation amicable.

However, it's now turned nasty with rumours flying about suggesting the pair's romance had been in a downward spiral.

It's been suggested the Wrecking Ball star became tired of Liam's "moody" behaviour and his wild partying.

One friend of Miley told People magazine: "She's been supportive of him when things get dark, but it's tough.

"That's something that has weighed on Miley and their relationship. He can also lash out at her, and he hates the attention their ups and downs bring."

Another source told the mag that Liam has a secret side he never shows in public.

"Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hardcore partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that's actually [not accurate]."

Another source told TMZ.com that Liam's camp are claiming Miley's recent "outrageous public behavior" contributed to the split, alleging sources spoke about the actor's partying in a bid to distract from the singer's own antics

Multiple sources have also suggested issues within the marriage sparked explosive rows between the pair as they rowed over their differences.

The break-up was announced on Saturday night with a representative for Miley said: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.

"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.

"Please respect their process and privacy."
