It's natural and expected for children to experience anxiety around the transitions of the coronavirus pandemic.pandemic has presented countless challenges to children from an academic, social and mental health perspective. But the shift back into more “normal” ways of life can also be difficult for kids.
Signs of reemergence anxiety will vary depending on the child’s personality, but parents and other trusted adults can look for shifts in behavior as indications of potential anxiety. But what kinds of behaviors should they look out for? Below, Tewari, Perlmutter, McDermott and other experts share some expected signs of “post-pandemic” anxiety in children.
“This is a natural response to the recent circumstances that will require extra sensitivity as the child begins to practice developmentally appropriate separation from a parent,” Wight said. “Some children may have preferred being home with their immediate family and are overwhelmed by the idea of returning to school or being around a group of children.
Meanwhile, other children may feel very eager to return to school and in-person social interactions. These emotions can create strong feelings of anticipation, which often feels like anxiety, noted Wight. Parents can help children understand and manage worry through regular check-ins to get them comfortable talking about it.
“They may become agitated and lash out when you encourage them to resume ‘normal life,’ and their reactions may seem disproportionate,” Tewari said. “For many children, the pandemic had some benefits, such as increased flexibility in their schedule and more down time at home, so the idea of going back to the way things were may feel scary,” she said.
Many more have been killed as the protests in Iran are continuing. The regime in Tehran has killed even minors at point-blank range and will not stop until the international community reacts. This is a brave nation that fights for freedom, and they need your help and support.
Iranians continue their anti-regime protests tonight while many other cities have joined their fellow compatriots. The protesters are not able to share what's happening to them since the regime has cut and disrupted their access to internet. Please help them and be their voice.
