It has been nearly five years since The Killers have dropped an album, but that seems to be changing with the recent announcement of their forthcoming LP, Wonderful Wonderful.
The American rock band has already shared a few cuts from the album, including “The Man,” which was released June 14, and “Run for Cover,” which they debuted at a show in Atlantic City.
With Wonderful Wonderful on the horizon, Billboard Dance is looking back at The Killers’ past body of work and picking out the 11 best remixes.
The Killers – “When You Were Young” (Calvin Harris Remix)
Calvin Harris combines nostalgia and euphoria in his high-octane remix of “When You Were Young.” He retains the melody of the original record but adds some fat drum kicks and larger-than-life synths to the mix.
The Killers – “Mr. Brightside” (Two Friends Remix)
Trending on Billboard
Everyone loves a good throwback, especially when it receives the proper remix. Two Friends breathe new life into The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” and have seen it accrue millions of plays since its release. On top of that, it’s become a staple in Tiësto’s set.
The Killers – “Smile Like You Mean It” (Madeon Remix)
Madeon‘s fun-loving flip of “Smile Like You Mean It” is an oldie but a goodie. The track, which came out in 2010, is dressed in disco grooves and retro synths. Plug this tune into your next ’80s-themed party.
The Killers – “Miss Atomic Bomb” (Maor Levi Remix)
You’ll want to save your energy for this fist-pumping rendition of “Miss Atomic Bomb” as Israeli producer Maor Levi goes full speed ahead at the drop. Gather your leftover fireworks and perhaps invest in a cryo cannon; you’ll want both going off as this remix plays.
The Killers – “Spaceman” (Steve Aoki & The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
Time to pull out the air guitar. Steve Aoki and The Bloody Beetroots pump up The Killers’ “Spaceman” with gritty bass guitar and vibrant percussion but keep the rock essence of the original song.
The Killers – “Miss Atomic Bomb” (Felix Cartal Remix)
Close your eyes and sink into the abyss of Felix Cartal’s gospel chords that introduce his remix of “Miss Atomic Bomb.” The dreamy sequence is intercepted by an 8-bit melody that leads into a powerful progression catered to the big-room audience.
The Killers – “Runaways” (Pierce Fulton Remix)
Vermont-based producer Pierce Fulton lays down a bed of cheery melodies with his remix of “Runaways.” It lands in a pleasant middle ground, harnessing the energy of a festival and the vibe of an intimate indie performance.
The Killers – “Human” (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Mixing trance and ’80s new wave sounds like a strange combination at first, but once you hear it, it all makes sense. Trance veteran Ferry Corsten gives “Human” a head-bobbing remix that is driven by sharp drum hits and a buzzy bassline.
The Killers – “Mr. Brightside” (Jacques Lu Cont’s Thin White Duke Mix)
Grab the Kleenex. Jacques Lu Cont’s Thin White Duke Mix of “Mr. Brightside” will take you on an emotional journey. Rock along to the acoustic strumming, dreamy pads and bright hi-hats.
The Killers – “Human” (Ocelot Remix)
Ocelot takes the liberty of transforming “Human” into an old-school electro house heater. The once-uplifting production takes a dark turn and has gravelly layers grind against one another.
The Killers – “The Man” (Duke Dumont Remix)
Duke Dumont lays down a fat funk foundation for his retro rework of “The Man”. Slap on your coolest shades and slick black leather jacket. It’s time to jam.
