The end of the New York City's Democratic mayoral primary is near

Early voting is underway and Election Day is less than a week away, so Wednesday night's debate offered eight of the leading candidates one last chance to change the dynamic of this unpredictable and often off-kilter race. But after a long campaign, this final in-person gathering was mostly tame. And substantive.

"Not one specific idea, not one specific plan. You started out this campaign talking about using hotels, now you're into psych beds."Adams could be heard chuckling as Stringer attacked, but otherwise kept quiet.Yang has improved as a candidate during the course of the campaign, but his lack of experience in city politics, a narrative bolstered by the occasional gaffe, has made him an easy debate stage target -- one at which Stringer, on Wednesday, took repeated aim.

NYC mayoral candidates trade blows ahead of Democratic primaryIn tonight's NYC mayoral debate, Scott Stringer attacked Andrew Yang’s response on homelessness as “the greatest non-answer” he'd ever heard and pressed Yang on how much his proposal would cost. Watch: Some context from aeis17 here: Scott Stringer's calling out Andrew Yang for a policy he has personally endorsed. (Stringer has also called for an increase in psych beds.) Catch up with tonight's NYC mayoral debate: Scott the comptroller should explain this maybe it came with a negative tone but Andrew just wants those mentally ill persons to be taken care of properly by confining them in a facility, and to prevent them from wandering and sleeping in dangerous streets/subways..

NYC mayoral candidates land blows ahead of Democratic primaryOne of the more spirited moments during tonight's NYC mayoral debate: Dianne Morales v. Ray McGuire about views on policing. Morales: “How dare you assume to speak for Black and brown communities as a monolith? You cannot do that.” McGuire: “I just did.” She’s speaking the TRUTH!… idk who he represents but it’s not me or the people I know! Rank Ray 1 Morales sounds confused, Adams not much better. No one speaks for an entire race/religion.
