December 3, 2020 -- The United States recorded 2,597 coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday -- the second highest one-day death count since the pandemic began.trail only the 2,769 deaths reported May 7, when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its worst.Over the last week, the United States’ daily average of coronavirus deaths has been 1,520. That’s more than the seven-day average of 1,107 set during the summer peak, but below the 2,116 seven-day average in late April.

Overall, more than 270,000 people have died of coronavirus-related reasons since the pandemic began, and some health experts are forecasting dire increases. "We're soon going to exceed well more than 2,000 deaths, maybe 3,000, 4,000 deaths every single day here in the US,” said Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency medicine physician and a visiting professor at George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, according toOn Wednesday, CDC Director Robert Redfield, M.D., said the national death toll could near 450,000 by February unless more people start observing safety precautions such as mask wearing.

"The reality is, December and January and February are going to be rough times.
