Overall, 41% of American teenagers say they haven't attended a single online or virtual class, according to a national poll conducted between March 24 and April 1. That could be due to a lot of different factors — including resource gaps.

There is a big gap between public and private school students in the survey, with 47% of public school students saying they have not attended a class, compared with just 18% of private school students.

Jose Luis Vilson, a middle school teacher in the Washington Heights section of New York City, says those findings echo what he's seeing among his students."You think about the vast majority of the kids, they're going through their own levels of stress," he said.

BECAUSE THEY NEED DISCIPLINE TO DO IT! Sitting at home in front of a device that has easy access to games and porn is not even close to the ideal set up for education! Having parents who will ride herd and whoop their asses if they don't focus on homework is also crucial.

Now online learning is racist got it

No,,,, they're worried about being set back a grade because of this.

Because jail and deportation exists for them. Fucking sick world.

bored as fuck someone hmu

How many didn’t have a cell phone........?

💔

When attending regular school, 99% of teen-agers do not have access to their phones.

And I parked my Taxi on Campus losing money$$$$$ to get my education. And had to pay back student loan

I’m afraid the real answer is access and apathy

Of course duh. Teachers got long vacation this year .

Given that the education system was designed to basically be a large babysitting program so parents can go to work, I'm not surprised. I'm sure they need to get into their online classes so they can be educated towards an arbitrary state testing system. Oh dear

I mean, I graduated 10 years ago but if this happened then I would have been screwed because we couldn’t afford internet services

Hold on a minute, though. Our school district — suburban and rated quite well — just last Friday, Apr. 3, started its Google Meets and assignment slides online. Prior to that, we had plenty of work sent home to fill the days and we also had a planned spring break “off.”

NTENorg Or spring break. Many kids were out due to that

Correct. Most were on an extended spring break. What's your point?

Children should turn in a bill for 180 days x 13 years that adults have used them to make a paycheck and gov forcing them so they don't have to pay them to job train. 50/50 custody w/state. Pay them for their childhood stolen to benefit adults.

Many schools are still trying to get it together and school systems in my area are still ensuring that all kids have access to laptops and internet. Our county starts 4/20 while county over starts online learning 4/13.

For the most part American internet access is overpriced and sub-par bandwidth compared to more modern thinking nations.

Y’all have meet some actual teenagers before right?

No it’s due to tiktok and all the other dumb shit teenagers do these days. Plus no parenting telling their kids to do their homework be responsible etc

How many fortnights before this changes?

Rural areas will be a problem due to access to internet.
