While movie theaters are struggling, we saw large financial returns with sequels such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and very likely with “Avatar: The Way of Water.” We’re also seeing international titles find, love such as “RRR,” which despite not being India’s entry for the Oscars could still garner multiple nods.
The 2022 Emmys also bestowed honors upon familiar faces and television series such as Zendaya for “Euphoria,” Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” and HBO’s “Succession.” They fell in love with a new TV icon-in-the-making — Quinta Brunson for her record-setting win for ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.”
New music dominated the headlines with albums dropping from Beyoncé, Rihanna and Taylor Swift, who are all angling for Grammy and Oscar love this year.
Hollywood had multiple shake-ups and outings such as Bob Iger taking the Disney reigns back from Bob Chapek. The Warner Bros. Discovery merger continues to spiral with DC sequels like “Wonder Woman 3” getting canceled and CNN undergoing major layoffs. Netflix posted growth in Q3, signaling positive future returns thanks to hit shows like “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” “Stranger Things” and “Wednesday.”
Finally, we remember some of the most beloved celebrities we lost in 2022, including Leslie Jordan, Irene Cara, Jason David Frank, Aaron Carter, Coolio, Bob Saget and Queen Elizabeth.
