did not make their full housing payment on time, per Apartment List. In the first week of August, 11% of respondents made a partial payment, while 22% had yet to make any payment at all.

And with eviction courts reopening across the country, the missed payments have advocates worried about potentially"This is creating a deep sense of housing insecurity for those struggling to keep up financially," says Apartment List. "With the recent expiration of most federal eviction and foreclosure protections and a lapse in expanded unemployment benefits, this insecurity is sure to deepen over the coming weeks.

The first thing renters should do if they are struggling to pay their housing bill is to negotiate with their landlord, Igor Popov, chief economist at Apartment List, tells CNBC Make It. In the August survey, almost half of renter respondents reported that they had negotiated or were in the process of negotiating their housing bill with their landlord.

"Remember that your landlord needs income too, so approach this with empathy for what you're asking," she says. Make it clear that "you're just paying late rather than asking for free money."

MakeIt Source? Nobody knows that company.

MakeIt Misleading. Define “early-August”. Everyone knows payments are not even due until the 15th each month.

MakeIt To implement a right this data needs to dissected on state and county level.

MakeIt Please also share what % these default payments are owed to the fed govt under gse/fha/va/usda backed mortgages.. Most mortgage companies jus service the loan at direction of the backer ie the govt. What r Mnuchin n congress doing to prevent collapse? SRuhle RBReich

MakeIt Housing isn’t a human right. Stop protesting and go to work.

MakeIt America first ? Ask trump

MakeIt Over 100 million Americans are insolvent but at least the markets are doing well.

MakeIt Trump took care of that unless peloso blocks them from help. But more amazing is that 68% in open republican states payed the normal payment when they couldve skipped it lol

MakeIt Yes...of course they did! If given a choice to pay or defer...why not? They willdefer to pay later and have extra cash in hand. Why not?!

MakeIt Of that 32%, what percent are in Democrat Controlled Communities?

MakeIt Great example of why Universal basic income wont work. Govt intentionally gave everyone money to pay rent and bills and they went to amazon and apple to buy 💩. Americans will waste anything that is given to them.

MakeIt Manage your money better.

MakeIt The game of loans and credit score. People should not be encouraged to miss payments during a pandemic. The bank and credit agencies will smile till you need them

MakeIt .

MakeIt Bullish. Another green day at Wall st...

MakeIt It was encouraged to skip payments so I'm surprised its so low with trump buying every a pass obviously most didn't use it.

MakeIt Payment history on their credit report is gonna reflect all that as missed payments. Credit scores are gonna drop.
