SOS: Three men have been rescued from a tiny Pacific island after writing the distress signal in the sand that was spotted from above.

In this photo provided by the Australian Defence Force, an Australian Army helicopter lands on Pikelot Island in the Federated States of Micronesia, where three men were found, Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, safe and healthy after missing for three days. The men were missing in the Micronesia archipelago east of the Philippines for nearly three days when their "SOS" sign was spotted by searchers on Australian and U.S. aircraft, the Australian defense department said.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Three men have been rescued from a tiny Pacific island after writing a giant SOS sign in the sand that was spotted from above, authorities say. The men had been missing in the Micronesia archipelago for nearly three days when their distress signal was spotted Sunday on uninhabited Pikelot Island by searchers on Australian and U.S. aircraft, the Australian defense department said Monday.

The men had apparently set out from Pulawat atoll in a 7-meter boat on July 30 and had intended to travel about 43 kilometers to Pulap atoll when they sailed off course and ran out of fuel, the department said.Searchers in Guam asked for Australian help. The military ship, Canberra, which was returning to Australia from exercises in Hawaii, diverted to the area and joined forces with U.S. searchers from Guam.

The men were found in good condition, and an Australian military helicopter was able to land on the beach and give them food and water. A Micronesian patrol vessel was due to pick them up.

They never might have been found except they weren't wearing masks so they sent out the troops.

DaveMcCannKSL Was one of them this guy?

Childhood may have led me to believe that quicksand was a far more common threat than it turned out to be, but it's nice to know that some classic cartoon scenarios still stand the test of time.

BearGrylls your teachings work!

A communication well done is essential in any circumstance. Sometimes, like this, it is a life or death issue.

I bet they weren’t wearing a mask. 😉

What have they done with Ginger, Maryann, and the Millionaire's wife?😱😱😱

AND they probably refused to ask for directions when they decided not to top off the gas. Good thing somebody new their alphabet...

Did they rescue Wilson?

Damn I didn't even know they were lost

Wilson!!

UPDATE::: After briefly returning to civilisation the Pilot is now dropping the lads back off on the island this afternoon.

A three hour tour....

It looks perfect. Why leave?

I send an sos to the world....

Evidently Gilligan wasn’t around to mess up the rescue signal!😂

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip ... It's hard to believe that a three-hour tour could turn out so badly.

White people. Next year; 'Let's do it again'

It's okay guys - the article is from New Zealand.

When you’re taken off a peaceful, deserted island, and brought BACK to this world, I don’t think I call that a “rescue”.

The fools. They should have stayed there.

shoot, id have stayed. lifetime on a tropical island.

If I was them I would have just stayed there. Much safer

Well if they would’ve died there it would’ve been COVID19 related deaths

Reminds me of the far side

how this happened?

They thought they were being saved. Little did they know, it's 2020.

Was Wilson rescued with them, I wonder?

Guess that 'three hour tour' didn't go as planned.

“...sailed off course and ran out of fuel.” Rrrrright....

Was Wilson with them?

Are they taking reservations at this island?

Wilson!!

Wow, would you look at that!

Oh, it doesn’t just happen in the movies

more uplift

KarthikSKashyap ratan_lanesra should we also send SOS to God? Think high time we get out of here

They’re probably gonna regret that SOS .. 😑

In today’s screwed up world isn’t it more likely that you would want to stay on a desert island than come back to this insanity.

Gilligan?

What happened to Ginger and Maryann? And the Howells?

Movie shit works, folks.

But did they thank Hollywood?

🎵the Skipper tooooo🎶the millionaireeee🎶🎶and his wiiife🎵🎵

How strange is it that the same thing happened in 2016? Is the simulation glitching?

Wow. That’s a tiny SOS. It’s like they made a bet to see how small they could make it, and still get noticed. 😅

That actually worked?

The trick is to be succinct.

They were better off there

Bill Clinton Prince Andrew Harvey Weinstein

Can I take their place

Was it the Professor, Gilligan, and the Skipper?

Wilson?

Did it say, 'WILSON'? 🏐🏐🏐 😂

If they haven't been there since WWII, not a big deal!😂😉😁

Love the age old tradition of writing 'save our souls' in the sand. Can I suggest you write the date next to it for our rescue services ... it's not like you're busy :)

are flights available ?

Tom Hanks made it like 8 years all alone and got really good at fishing

It’s Margate

Not very original.

Happy Ending 💕

Just like the movies

Also, as soon as someone explained to them what’s been happening for the last 6 months, they immediately asked to be returned to the island.

Why would they want to be rescued?

I would have stayed there. Wish I was there right now

It works! 😁

Where can i find this island? Time to escape this mad mad world.

I thought that only worked in movies ...

That’s how you draw it up.

Bernard?

They should have stayed if it was Covid free.

Why would they want to come back

I would have taken my chances on the island

Gilligan!
