As per their duties in support of her majesty The Queen, many members of the British Royal Family have seen service in British or other Commonwealth armed forces, with some even holding honorary ranks or positions.

Prince William has held a longstanding career within the military with rank of Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force while his father, Prince Charles a Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Royal Air Force.

However, one royal who is yet to hold a military distinction is The Duchess of Cambridge herself. However, it didn't stop her from debuting a brand new look that shows her fit for dutyt, in a recent Instagram post and it's miles apart from her usual floral midi dress.

As shown in the throwback pictures from last year, Kate dons head-to-toe army uniform in honour of Armed Forces Day (25 June) including gloves, jacket and helmet – it's the complete works.

She wrote in the accompanying caption: "Today on Armed Forces Day, William and I would like to pay tribute to the brave men and women, past and present, serving in all of our armed forces, at sea, on land and in the air, here in the UK and around the world. Thank you for all you and your families sacrifice to keep us safe.

"Last year, I was honoured to spend time with the @BritishArmy to see how they train serving personnel and new recruits. It was wonderful to see first-hand the many important and varied roles the military play day in, day out to protect us all, and I look forward to discovering more about the @RoyalNavy and @RoyalAirForceUK in due course. C"
