There will be no Harry Styles slander on Lizzo’s watch. Last week, former One Direction member Liam Payne went on Logan Paul’s podcast and upset the entire 1D fandom by making fun of Zayn Malik and claiming that the X-Factor-formed group was created as a platform to kickstart his career as a singer. Among those not buying it: Lizzo, singer, shapewear designer, 1D fan, and noted friend of Harry Styles.

“I don’t know who lied to that poor boy, but we all know he was not the front man,” Lizzo said in a June 3 TikTok titled “TikTok Observations.” Though she didn’t name Liam specifically, fans have assumed she was talking about him. Lizzo has had a long history with One Direction, from flirting with Niall Horan on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to performing with Harry Styles at Coachella this year. She also recently praised Styles’s new album, saying on Instagram Live, “He put his whole harrussy into that album. I love that album.”

Liam ruffled feathers last week when he claimed that Simon Cowell, who put One Direction together, did so in part as a way to keep a promise made to Liam the previous year. Cowell “kind of started with my face and worked around the rest,” he claimed during his appearance on the May 31 episode of Impaulsive. He went on to describe what it was like to “lead the band” on The X-Factor stage. That, coupled with his wild assertion that he had the most successful first solo single of all 1D members and his perceived digs at Zayn, did not sit well with fans. He eventually apologized on Twitter: “Listening back maybe I didn’t articulate myself as well as I could have. I was saying that there will always be things we disagree on but that I will always, always be on his side. That’s family. Zayn is my brother and I will stand by him forever.”
