Rihanna is doing her part to help fight climate change. As announced on January 26, the star has pledged to donate $15 million to organizations striving for climate justice in the United States and the Caribbean. The pledge was made via her Clara Lionel Foundation, in partnership with Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall initiative.

“At the Clara Lionel Foundation, much of the work is rooted in the understanding that climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change. This is why CLF prioritizes both climate resilience and climate justice work across the U.S. and Caribbean,” Rihanna said in a press release, per Complex.

According to its website, the Clara Lionel Foundation currently has nine active projects focusing on climate resilience. “Our Climate Resilience Initiative is focused on addressing multiple dimensions of emergency preparedness while scaling solutions to the problems of climate change,” the page reads. “These projects, which range from school and health clinic infrastructure hardening projects to gender-integrated emergency response planning and local capacity building in the Caribbean, serve as models of preparedness that can be replicated and scaled to enable other high-risk regions around the world to be better prepared to withstand extreme weather events. Ultimately, our goal is that the Caribbean becomes the world’s first climate-resilient zone.”

The new $15 million pledged will be awarded via grants to groups “focused on and led by women, youth, Black, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and people of color to accelerate climate justice for those at greatest risk” — the press release stated. 18 organizations have been selected as the recipients of the grants, which you can check below:
