Tobey Maguire describes how it felt wearing the Spider-Man suit again for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Maguire first put on the iconic superhero costume in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, which ran for three films from 2002 to 2007. Since Maguire's outing as the web-slinger predates other adaptations, it makes him the original live-action Spider-Man actor. While Maguire's portrayal of the superhero has been well received by fans, critics were quick to pick apart Raimi's films as the series went on.

Marvel has since cast two other actors to wear the Spider-Man costume over the years. Andrew Garfield portrayed the superhero in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014's sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Marvel then replaced Garfield with actor Tom Holland as the MCU's Spider-Man, who first played the hero in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Holland would go on to play the character six additional times during the Infinity Saga, including his latest outing in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Despite originally denying rumors of their involvement in No Way Home, the film also saw the return of both Maguire and Garfield as Spider-Man. Putting on the costume once again about 14 years later in 2021, Maguire finally reveals how that felt.

The official Spider-Man YouTube channel released a video in which all three Spider-Men (Maguire, Holland, and Garfield), sat down for an interview with Pete Hammond. During the interview, Maguire describes how it felt wearing the Spider-Man suit once again in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The 46-year-old actor explains that although it was "uncomfortable getting it on," once the "goofiness" dissipated, the "power" of the suit helped bring the actor "back into the character." While Maguire describes wearing the costume as a responsibility, he also sees it as a "blessing." View Maguire's thoughts on wearing the Spider-Man suit again in No Way Home below:

"It was uncomfortable getting it on and then it's a goof, and then it also has a sort of a power in a sense because it brings me back into that character. It really does, there's so much affinity for this character, it means so much to so many people, that once the goofiness of being in lycra or spandex goes away, you're like 'Oh wow. This is cool. This is a responsibility but a blessing, like something that I get to do that I'm grateful for.' Honestly, being with these guys, it really was just a much, much richer experience than I anticipated or that I could really even express in words."

Although a story for Raimi's Spider-Man 4 had been written, Maguire's time as the web-slinger was ultimately scrapped and later rebooted with Garfield in the costume instead. Still, Maguire had little hesitation when he was asked to join the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor further explains that he was "intrigued immediately" about the idea of returning to the superhero. After seeing the "kind of love and celebration" the Spider-Man movies have received over the years, and after seeing the "genuine intent" of the creative team behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, Maguire wanted to join. Apparently, it also helps that the actor is a self-proclaimed "big fan" of both Holland and Garfield's portrayals of the superhero in their respective movies.

Maguire clearly felt a great sense of responsibility and passion when wearing the Spider-Man costume once again. Likewise, fans seeing the actor wearing the iconic outfit conjured up the deepest levels of nostalgia and love. In fact, there has since been explicit demands from fans to make both Maguire's Spider-Man 4 and Garfield's TASM 3, as audiences just couldn't get enough of the actors' return. Fortunately, fans can see both former versions of Spider-Man swinging across the big screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and hope for the best regarding another potential MCU cameo.
