Suspect Shot, Wounded By Deputies During Standoff; Climbs Onto Roof Of Walnut Park Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A man was shot and wounded by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies during a SWAT standoff in which he climbed onto the roof of a home in Walnut Park Monday morning.

The standoff at a home in the 2500 block of Sale Place began at around 5:20 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, after a neighbor allegedly reported hearing gunshots.

An LASD SWAT team responded. At some point during the standoff, the suspect was shot and wounded by deputies.

Sky2 was over the scene as a male suspect lay on the roof with his hands in the air. What may have been a black handgun could be seen on the front lawn.

The standoff came to an end a little before 7:45 a.m. when the suspect was apprehended. He was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. He was not immediately identified.

It's unclear what exactly prompted the shooting or if the suspect was armed or exchanged gunfire with deputies. There was also no word on whether a gun was recovered at the scene.
