N.J. woman fatally beaten with pipe at Philly office building, police say

A 31-year-old New Jersey woman was beaten to death with a pipe inside a Philadelphia office building Wednesday and a man was arrested at the scene, police said.

The woman was attacked shortly after 2 p.m. at the Regus building on the 300 block of Chestnut Street in the city’s Old City section, according to Philadelphia police. She was rushed to a local hospital with severe head injuries and died around 3:15 p.m.

A man was arrested and officers recovered the weapon, a police spokeswoman confirmed.

The woman knew the assailant and they had previous disputes, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters. An exact motive, however, remained unclear.

Police have not released the name of the woman or more information about the man who was arrested.

According to the company’s website, Regus provides office space, coworking and other working space. A company representative could not be immediately reached to comment.
