Abby Lee Miller sues Hampton Inn & Suites after door traps her in wheelchair

Abby Lee Miller is suing the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton for $8.5 million in damages after one of the hotel’s doors allegedly fell on top of her, according to multiple reports.

The “Dance Moms” star — who was reportedly staying at the hotel chain in Santa Monica, Calif. — claimed in court documents obtained by People Wednesday that as she was leaving the bathroom, one of her wheelchair’s wheels got stuck, causing the door to topple over.

She alleges the more than 300-pound door fell “directly” on her head and left shoulder, trapping her in her wheelchair for “approximately six to twelve minutes.”

Miller, 56, also alleges in court papers that hotel guests did not help her despite her pleas, but two staff members did finally lift the door off of her.

She also claims, however, that the hotel staff “ignored” her on other occasions and did not aid her “accessibility needs when she contacted the front desk for assistance.” She said she was unable to use the laundry room because it was not wheelchair accessible and her hallway path was always obstructed by housekeeping carts.

Miller reportedly stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites for an extended period of time from March and October 2020.

The reality star is suing the hotel chain for negligence, emotional distress, unlawful discrimination, discrimination against individuals with disabilities, and false imprisonment.

Miller was diagnosed with cancer in April 2018 following her release from prison, where she was serving time for bankruptcy fraud. She underwent emergency surgery in June 2018 in regards to her diagnosis, and has been in a wheelchair since.

In July 2019, Miller had another unfortunate accident involving her wheelchair, in which she fell out of it while traveling at an American Airlines gate.

The dance teacher wrote at the time, “I shouldn’t have had to ask for someone to call the paramedics and maybe the @americanair Gate Mgr should’ve at the very least asked if I was ok? Thank you to all the Pgh international Airport Escorts that were so very kind & the hot firemen who swiftly got me on my feet, into my chair & on my way!!!”

Attorneys for Miller have not responded to requests for comment on her latest lawsuit. A spokesperson for the Hampton Inn & Suites did immediately get back to us.
