Storm expected to begin by late afternoon, continue overnight

Snow is on central Pennsylvania’s doorstep.

As of 1:20 p.m., snow could be seen on radar on a line from near Chincoteague, Virginia, northwest to Annapolis and then west to Leesburg, Virginia, and northwest to Hagerstown, Maryland.

It’s expected to overspread the area between 3 and 5 p.m., with the rain-snow line setting up along the I-95 corridor through the early part of Sunday evening.

The forecast for central Pennsylvania has remained fairly steady since yesterday, with the storm predicted to begin as snow and then accumulate an inch to 3 inches, depending on which forecast you look at.

Eventually it will change to a wind-driven rain overnight, with some sleet and freezing rain mixed in. Winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph with some higher gusts.

There could be a changeover back to snow early Monday morning, with the storm and its precipitation pulling away by mid-morning.

More snow is predicted the farther you move to the north and west of central Pennsylvania, with Pittsburgh under a winter storm warning for 6 to 13 inches while the Buffalo, New York, forecast is calling for 12 to 18 inches with significant drifting, according to The Weather Channel.

According to the National Weather Service, Altoona could get as much as a foot and Williamsport as much as 7 inches.

The rest of the week looks to be dry and cold.
