Dog Hilariously Freaks Out After Being Put on Towering Cat Post: 'Afraid of Heights'

Our four-legged friends never cease to surprise and entertain us, from cats fitting in tiny spaces to dogs' unconditional love.

But one pet owner got quite the shock—and laugh—when they decided to see what their Yorkshire Terrier's reaction would be to the cat's towering post.

Colubana, from Miami, decided to give pet Paco a taste of the high life after her cat, Romi, stole the dog bed, filming the feline snoozing in the corner.

"You ever tried putting your dog on a cat tree?" she said in the on-screen caption.

And in the background she says: "We're putting him on the cat tree since Romi took the dog bed."

The towering scratching post features a cozy perch at the top, and overlooks a window, perfect for cat-naps.

But while small enough to fit, it was clear the Yorkie preferred his feet firmly on the ground.

The clip shows a man picking up the dog and placing him on top, but after a few seconds Paco begins to tremble, before shaking uncontrollably.

He's swiftly picked up and put back on the floor, as the pair erupt in laughter at his melodramatic reaction.

"We gave him a treat afterwards," Colubana confirmed in the clip, which has amassed a staggering 23 million views since being shared in November, and can be seen here.

Others also found Paco's reaction hilarious, as Rey wrote: "The dog looks like it's about to speak to a manager."

Fiskiye commented: "Afraid of heights, afraid of heightssss."

EuphoricSun noted: "Poor puppy is afraid of heights and the cat is like da heck."

Tamara admitted: "Me when I'm three feet up a ladder."

Diamond Sade Nichole joked: "My dryer when I put shoes in it."

Others pointed out as it was in front of a window, perhaps the view of the drop is what scared Paco.

Andrew Dickey pointed out: "Doesn't help the dog is looking out the window at a 20 storey drop."

"And he was looking out the window, he thought it was over," @Scoobysnacks1111 wrote.

While not all dogs are afraid of heights, known as acrophobia, website PetHelpful explains these sorts of aversions usually fit into one of three categories, fear, phobia and anxiety.

It said: "Fear is a rational and emotional response to an actual threat or danger.

"The term 'phobia' describes an irrational fear that has no specific cause or basis. Dogs can experience phobias just like people can; for example, a fear of shadows, sciophobia, is not uncommon in dogs.

"Anxiety is different to fear and phobia in that there does not need to be an actual solid reason for the fear, just the potential for it."

The dislike of heights can manifest in numerous ways, with other dogs unwilling to go down stairs due to their fear of heights.
