An Insane ‘Outriders’ Pyromancer Firepower Build For The New Horizon Update

This article is more than 2 years old.

Outriders is back, baby. A big sale and a new patch have increased the playercount tenfold, and as such, people are heading back to the game for the first time since launch, or picking it up brand new. With a 2022 expansion announced, there’s no better time to get started, and I’m going to go over a build I’ve been using now that I picked the game up again on PC.

Pyromancer is one of the most popular classes in Outriders, but can be hard to master. For all this time, the main builds for Pyromancer have all been anomaly power-based, but now with recent buffs, there’s a new firepower build that’s outperforming my old AP builds. Here is my guide to what you need to run it:

Skills

Volcanic Rounds – This is your bread and butter and how you will be doing most of your damage, similar to other bullet builds from Technomancer and Trickster.

Ash Blast – This acts as a pretty huge debuff with some of the mods we’re using, plus it’s good crowd control as it locks enemies in place.

Feed the Flames – Instant healing plus instant ammo refill, based on the mods we’re using, and ensures Volcanic Rounds never, ever runs out.

Class Perk Tree – This is what it looks like, going down the firepower path and making me deviate from my middle tree build I normally use. You are a bit squishy, but it’s okay.

Weapon: Damascus Offering – This is the one I used. An LMG with 100 rounds and the newly buffed Claymore Torrent. Second mod switches to Dark Sacrifice for max damage. Your other two weapons are purely for style points as you will never use them.

Armor Set: Torturer’s Head, Chest and Pants. All firepower, triples the size of your Volcanic Rounds AoE, but frankly I don’t notice it a ton. You mostly want these for the mods. I also use Gauntlets of the Cannonball as those are firepower and come with Tier 3 mod Captain Hunter built in. Look for Close Range Damage and Cooldown Reduction, probably, as sub stats.

Perks: Here’s the list I have running right now:

  • Death Sentence (Tier 3) – Ash Blast makes enemies take 40% more weapon damage and 30% more anomaly damage for 8 seconds
  • Armor Melting (Tier 1) – Volcanic Rounds reduces armor 30% for 10 seconds
  • Susceptibility (Tier 3) – Volcanic Rounds decreases enemy resistance 50%
  • Bullet Kindling (Tier 2) – Deal 20% more damage to Burning enemies
  • Ashes and Leeches (Tier 3) – Ash Blast increases Weapon Leech 40% for 8 seconds
  • Ashen Boost (Tier 2) – Deal 20% more damage to enemies afflicted with Ash
  • Captain Hunter (Tier 3) – Deal 25% more damage to elite enemies
  • Bullet Absorption (Tier 1) – Feed the Flames fills 40% ammo for every enemy affected
  • Wide Grip (Tier 1) – Feed the Flames affects one additional target
  • Bloodlust (Tier 2) – Killing shots increased firepower by 17K, stacks 3 times (Tier 3 version of this also works)

Gameplay – So this is how this actually works. You activate Volcanic Rounds, you hit enemies with Ash Blast where they will now be super debuffed. You debuff them further with Volcanic hits and do 40% more damage if they are both in Ash and burning. When you run low on ammo in your mag, you use Feed the Flames to get 80% ammo from two targets, targets that also get hit with Ash. Repeat indefinitely. Do 300K damage per expedition. Have fun.
