Blackpink’s Lisa Claims The Third-Longest-Charting Single By A K-Pop Soloist In U.K. History

Every week for more than a month now, singer and rapper Lisa has found at least one way to make history on the U.K. singles chart. First she became the very rare K-pop solo musician to reach the main ranking with her debut single on her own, “Lalisa,” and that success would have been enough to prove her incredible popularity and power. Now, she’s on the list again with her follow-up “Money,” which has proved to be even more popular in many respects, and as she often does, she’s made history yet again.

For the third week in a row, “Money” lifts on the U.K. singles chart, improving from No. 59 to No. 54, but it’s not the position that matters most this time around. Instead, Lisa makes history once again with what has become a surprisingly sturdy hit.

“Money” has now spent three consectuive weeks on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.K., and with just a trio of frames spent on the list, it already stands as the third-longest-charting single by a solo K-pop musician. 

Psy claims the two longest-charting tracks by K-pop solo artists in U.K. history, as the two tunes he’s placed on the ranking both lived on the 100-spot tally for an incredibly long stretch of time. The South Korean powerhouse’s “Gangnam Style” managed to rack up 55 weeks on the chart, which is a massive accomplishment for any cut, regardless of the nationality of the musician behind it. “Gangnam Style” remains the only tune by a K-pop act to hit No. 1 in the country, and it’s one of only two that have lived on the roster for a year or more.

After conquering the world with “Gangnam Style,” Psy returned to the U.K. singles chart with his follow-up hit “Gentleman,” which found space on the ranking for 19 weeks. The catchy cut peaked at No. 10, bringing the solo star back to the loftiest region for the second time, and it turned out to be another big win.

A number of other singles performed by solo K-pop music stars have reached the U.K. songs chart, with names like J-Hope and Agust D (also known as Suga) from the band BTS, as well as fellow Blackpink member Rosé placing one tune on the tally. While all of those wins helped the artists behind them show how far K-pop acts have come in the past few years, none of them spent more than one frame on the ranking.
