A harrowing 911 call has been released after Alec Baldwin shot dead Halyna Hutchins on The Rust revealing the sheer panic on set.
Made by script supervisor Mamie Mitchell she can be heard telling operators: "We've had two people accidentally shot on a movie set by a prop gun.
"We need help immediately."
Mamie told operators, in the footage obtained by TMZ, it wasn't clear if a real bullet was fired and it was during a rehearsal the incident occurred.
During the 911 call, the script supervisor then appears to speak to someone else and then says: "He's supposed to check the guns, he's responsible," before the operator then asks more questions.
An unidentified man then takes over the call and tells the operator where both people are alert and says that a medic is tending to them.
According to a warrant from the police investigation the gun Alec fired in the fatal shooting set was handed to the actor loaded with a live round.
Director of photography Halyna was killed in the horrifying accident on the set of the Oscar-nominated actor’s new movie Rust, after a prop gun Baldwin was using reportedly misfired.
The 63-year-old released a statement on the devastating incident, which took place on Thursday while filming the Western on a 2,000-acre ranch in New Mexico.
He said: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.
"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
The Departed star, who is father to seven children, sent his condolences to Hutchins’ family and friends.
Police were called to the scene shortly after the incident, and the cinematographer was rushed to hospital via helicopter, but later died at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Her tragic death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.
A statement issued by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office said Hutchins and Souza were shot when the prop firearm was discharged by leading man Baldwin.
He has since been questioned and released without charge, as the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and witnesses are being interviewed by officers.
Pictures of Baldwin, who also served a producer on the Western, was pictured looking distraught following the shooting, and was spotted hunched over and sobbing, while talking on the phone.
Production on the movie has been shut down indefinitely, and producers of Rust offered counselling to affected members of their cast and crew.
“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” a spokesperson for Rust Movies Productions LLC said in a statement.
“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation,” they added.
