2021 Heisman Trophy Favorites Halfway Through the Season, According to the Odds

The college football regular season has already reached its halfway point in 2021, and no one player has separated himself from the pack when it comes to being the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Two quarterbacks from the Southeastern Conference—Matt Corral of Ole Miss and Bryce Young of Alabama—are the two current leaders for now, according to the sportsbook FanDuel. After that, the race is wide open.

Corral and Young are neck-and-neck at plus-175 apiece. Next is Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud at plus-700, and then there's a big drop-off to plus-2000, at which Pittsburgh quarterback and Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder are tied.

The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Voting is comprised of 870 media members, 56 living Heisman winners and one vote of collective fan voters.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith of Alabama won the award last season despite not being on the preseason watch list. Smith emerged as Alabama's top receiver after Jaylen Waddle suffered a season-ending injury, and Smith became the top target in the high-flying offense.

The favorite heading into 2021 was Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler, who has been sidelined this year for ineffective play. Now, Rattler isn't even among the top 34 players on FanDuel but his replacement, freshman Caleb Williams, is listed at plus-5000. Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, who was also on the preseason watch list, is not among the players listed who have current odds.

Georgia quarterback J.T. Daniels was a preseason favorite, but an injury has sidelined him. His backup, Stetson Bennett, is listed at plus-10000 while leading the top-ranked Bulldogs.

There haven't been any moments this season that have thrust any players into the limelight like previous seasons. Smith had those moments last year. Joe Burrow had those moments for LSU during their championship season in 2019.

Here are the odds to win the 2021 Heisman Trophy at the halfway point of the season.
