So I went on a quest to unearth the best rental services around. Some specialize in coveted accessories, while others stock up on emerging designers. They’re perfect for testing out those up-and-coming names without the long-term commitment.

Nuuly
Want to rent items from Anthropologie, Free People, and Urban Outfitters? Nuuly is the place to go. Subscribers are especially in love with the rental website’s wear-everywhere dresses right now. “We bring in new inventory every day and are constantly sourcing new brands via trade shows, Instagram, or even customer referrals,” says Dave Hayne, CTO of URBN and President of Nuuly.
How it works: Each subscription allows renters to borrow six items at a time for $98 a month. Be sure to take full advantage of the website’s features as you browse. “Our algorithm will get to know what you like and re-sort the product you see accordingly, but it gets smarter the more actions you take,” adds Hayne. Don’t worry about shipping or cleaning, because it’s all included in the membership.
Armoire
Those looking for help from a personal stylist will enjoy Armoire. After taking a style quiz, Armoire uses professional stylists and an algorithm to curate a custom closet for users.
How it works: There are three plans to choose from: four items for $79, seven for $119, or an unlimited number of items for $249 per month (the first two plans allow renters to receive only one case per month). If you decide to keep any clothes for longer than a month, don’t worry because any unused cases are rolled over. That way, you’ll never pay for extra cases you don’t receive. The best part: All membership tiers include free shipping both ways and can be paused or canceled at any time.
Rent the Runway
Forget everything you thought you knew about Rent the Runway. The program has completely changed over the years. While it originally launched with a focus on evening wear, they now offer an assortment of wear-everyday pieces.
You’ll also be delightfully surprised at all of the new labels being added every week. Some of our favorites include Altuzarra, Ulla Johnson, and Rotate Birger Christensen.
How it works: All three memberships allow you to rent four items at a time and keep them as long as you want. The first tier costs $94 a month (after a $84 trial) and gives renters one shipment of four items per month. Members in this quadrant have access to basic closet items valued at $350 or less. If you want two shipments (a total of eight items to rent per month), the next option is the $144 per month membership. Rent the Runway calls it the Most Loved program, and it includes full closet access to items valued at up to $3,000. The third option gives renters the same access, plus four shipments per month, which equals up to 16 items every 30 days. Returns are made easy with pre-paid shipping and reusable garment bags for all tier levels.
Vivrelle
If you’re a fan of changing your handbag often, then Vivrelle will be your best friend. Sure, you could invest in a wildly popular Bottega Veneta bag for a couple of thousand dollars, or you could rent one for an entire month for $99. Jewelry lovers will also appreciate this rental service because it offers coveted designs from Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.
How it works: There are three membership options to choose from with no required return dates for the items that you decide to rent. The first is called Premier and costs $45 per month. It gives you access to jewelry only. Classique is $119 and gives you access to one piece of jewelry or bag a month that has a retail value of $4,000 or less. Then there’s the mid-tier Couture offering for $219 a month. It also allows renters to select one piece of jewelry, bag, or one of the limited-edition items. The third option is the Couture+ level, which costs $309 a month. Members in that program will get two items per month: one from the Classique collection and another from Couture.

Vince Unfold
Turn your wardrobe into an ever-evolving minimalist heaven by joining Vince’s rental program. While you won’t get to experiment with different brands, the label is constantly adding new styles for men and women to browse through each week—like knit dresses and tailored trousers.
How it works: Vince Unfold’s rental program is straightforward. Renters get to enjoy four items at a time, and they have the added benefit of enjoying an unlimited amount of exchanges and free shipping for $160 per month. Keep them as long as you want. Tulerie
While most rental services curate a collection of items to loan out to customers, Tulerie stands out because the platform enables users to rent directly from other users. It’s like borrowing from your friends, but even better. “We took a very old concept, modernized it, and expanded the friend group to borrow from,” says Tulerie founder and CEO Violet Gross. The peer-to-peer rental service means you can find something new to wear through the app or lend out pieces from your own wardrobe. There’s also a resell option for lenders who are ready to part ways with their pre-loved items.
How it works: There’s no need to make a subscription commitment here. After an initial FaceTime interview, members can shop the closets of other users. Each item has its own special price with the option to be rented for four, 10, or 20 days. Tulerie automatically generates shipping labels so that borrowers or lenders don’t have to worry about that part of the rental process. It’s also free for lenders to join.
Nova Octo
In need of an awe-inspiring gown? Nova Octo is the way to go. The rental service keeps a collection of special, one-of-a-kind dresses, from designers such as LaQuan Smith and Carolina Herrera.
How it works: Once the date is set for your special occasion, browse the website by using the date filter to see items that will be available during that time period.
