Okay, Taylor Swift fans, gather round, ’cause one of us is on The Masked Singer this season. Sure, knowing that the person under the Caterpillar mask is a Swiftie fan might only narrow down options to about half the planet, but you best believe I’ll be out here trying to figure out who it is until I’m 100 percent sure.

Now, I’ll be the first one to say it…the Caterpillar costume is a little creepy. Like, it’s definitely something you’d see in a terrifying fever dream. But that doesn’t mean whoever’s underneath won’t be a pleasant surprise. Here’s everything we’ve got so far about who could potentially be inside Caterpillar on The Masked Singer.

The Clues

The first thing we know about the Caterpillar is the unnervingly smiley costume itself. It’s a fuzzy yellow and pink getup with three sets of feet. The head part has a toothy grin with braces and is wearing a headset. It all seems random, but I’m sure at some point, it’ll start to make sense.

At the time, the show had given only one tiny clue about who’s underneath it all. In a short clip, the fuzzy bug said, “You might not know who I am yet, but I can say a Taylor would. Especially this one,” followed by a picture of Taylor Swift popping up. Verrrry interesting.

Then there are these clue packages, where Caterpillar drops So! Much! Info!

Time to dissect all the intel we gathered from ’em:

  1. Caterpillar says they grew up lonely and that their life has been all about metamorphosis.
  2. The hurricane brewing on the TV screen.
  3. They left home at a young age.
  4. Caterpillar went to jail before.
  5. The framed image of the Great Lakes.
  6. Caterpillar watching themselves on TV.
  7. The flaming basketball.
  8. The shot of a pentagon with “call center” written above it.
  9. Caterpillar used to be a telemarketer and would use it as an excuse to call the family members he didn’t know.

ICYMI, Caterpillar made his debut on the hit FOX show this season as a wild card for Group B with a moving performance of Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy.” Caterpillar hit the stage again with a performance of NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me” and it was everything I didn’t know I needed. Yeah, I said it! Caterpillar graces your television screens again tonight for what is sure to be another riveting performance, but until then, let’s assess some of the best options for who just maaay be inside Caterpillar.

The Theories

Brendon Urie

Brendon from Panic! at the Disco was featured in TayTay’s song “Me!” so that has some people thinking he’s under the costume purely based on association and the general ~vibes~ from the music video fitting the color scheme of the costume. It’s not impossible, I’ll give it that!

Bobby Berk

The beloved interior designer from Netflix’s Queer Eye fits a lot of the given clues. For starters, do you remember seeing Bobby in T-Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video? It was legendary. And get this: Before he became a part of the Fab Five—which, BTW, is the same moniker for the iconic University of Michigan 1991 men’s basketball team, hence the shot of the Great Lakes—Bobby was a part of at least two Christian rock groups, so he has musical experience. But more so, Bobby has been candid in the past about some of the challenges he faced growing up gay in the Bible Belt, which ultimately led to him running away from home at 15 years old. TBH, gonna be prettttty hard to convince us that Caterpillar *isn’t* Bobby because all signs are definitely pointing to him! Alas, only time shall tell.

Todrick Hall

Another friend of T-Swift who’s also a singer is Todrick Hall. In case you don’t remember, he was in Taylor’s “Look What You Made Me Do” and “You Need to Calm Down” videos (and even co-exec produced the latter). He also just released his fourth album this past summer, so this could be some good promo for him. Buuut literally there’s too much evidence supporting that Todrick is actually the Bull right now, sooo there’s that.

Mariska Hargitay

Alright, yes, this one seems like a stretch, but some people are truly under the impression that Law and Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay is moonlighting as a giant caterpillar. She was in Taylor’s “Bad Blood” music video AND Taylor named one of her cats after Mariska’s SVU character, Olivia Benson. There is one teeny-tiny problem with this theory though: Mariska has no known history of being a singer (although TBH, that’s never stopped past Masked Singer contestants before, so who knows)!
