For Vogue’s October issue, photographer Annie Leibovitz was sent to Iceland’s stunningly untamed backdrops to capture fashion in the wild. A spirit of adventure runs gloriously—and glamorously—rampant in these looks. From puffers and parkas, shop the most intrepid pieces of the season below.
Roadside Attractions
A pit stop becomes an impromptu walkabout—where fashion can get taken for a roadside spin. Quilted pudds, gathered denim, and knitted separates help to keep things from getting too cool.
Golden Hour
On the dark and pebbly Reynisfjara beach, a glimmering Thom Browne gown shines, while Changkou cuts a darkly dashing figure in Noir Kei Ninomiya.
Take a Hike
Changkou sets off across the tundra wearing Louis Vuitton. Shi follows in a Sacai coat, while Yai is layered up in Chloé.
Silver Belles
A medley of metallics is the trio’s answer to the frosty surrounds on the Svínafellsjökull glacier. Shi finds warmth in Lanvin. Yai opts for a Celine by Hedi Slimane look, and Changkou does full-on Ralph Lauren.
Taking The Waters
In the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, dramatic proportions and strong colors give the tried-and-trusted puffer coat its moment in the sun. Changkou wears an Area jacket, Yai gets cozy in a Balenciaga parka, and Shi is in Givenchy.
Cool Runnings
And we’re off: Shi makes a bold move on Diamond Beach in her Lanvin coat. Yai wears a matching Ottolinger coat and dress. Changkou keeps pace in her Jacquemus jacket and skirt.
Let’s Get Lost
Near Vestrahorn on the Stokksnes peninsula, merrily mixed-up patterns and textures are ready-made for rambling. Yai wears a 2 Moncler 1952 Woman puffer vest, Changkou wears a Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons look and Shi tops it off in a Shuting Qiu jacket.
Don’t Fence Me In
In the wide-open spaces of Hvalnes, everybody drops their defenses. Changkou dresses up her The North Face coat with a Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello minidress. Shi wears a Michael Kors Collection jacket with her Prada dress. Yai mixes high fashion with high-performance in a The North Face coat and shorts from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.
Holding Pattern
Huddled close on the inselberg Hjörleifshöfði, Changkou wears Versace and Matty Bovan. Yai layers up with a Miu Miu crocheted set. Shi wears a Khaite jacket over her Raf Simons sweater.
