Apple iPhone 13 Design Leak Claims Curious New Color Coming

This article is more than 2 years old.

What’s your favorite color iPhone? Mine’s the current gold iPhone 12 Pro Max, as above, since you ask.

ForbesApple iPhone 13: When It Will Be Revealed, With A Record-Breaking Cancellation

A new leak claims to show the iPhone 13 in a dusky rose gold shade. It comes from Twitter from MajinBu, and it’s been met with a mixed response, to say the least.

It’s worth noting that the tweeter in question has had some success, including revealing the iPhone 12 silicone case before it went on sale, it seems.

Not to mention that this tweet has been picked up by DuanRui, though please note the retweet is accompanied by the words iPhone 13 Pro followed by a question mark.

And while many commentators are saying this image is fake, and I’d agree, there’s something going on here. This image does not look like an iPhone 12 Pro, because the camera unit looks wider, assuming this is not a trick of perspective.

In which case, maybe this is an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro Max, after all.

The color seems much less likely to be the case. I’m not saying the image has been tinkered with, but under the right lighting, a dark material, like a graphite iPhone, for instance, can seem to glow in a color that only a camera sees.

So, what can we expect from Apple in terms of iPhone colors this year?

The truth is, Apple has really upped its color game in recent years. When the iPhone 3GS followed the iPhone 3G, the two looked almost identical, and came in two colors, white and black. At the time I urged Apple to consider a new shade so that people who’d splashed out on the latest could show off their purchase as unmistakably new. How about midnight blue, I asked.

It was another couple of years before color came to the iPhone, with the iPhone 5s which branched out into a gold shade and, simultaneously, the iPhone 5c in blue, green, white, yellow and pink.

After that, what would come next was anyone’s guess, but for the last few years, every year has included a new color or colors.

So, we can be sure that the next iPhones, whether they’re called iPhone 13 or iPhone 12s, are going to have different options, and the only question is what will change.

Actually, the likelihood is everything. When the iPhone 11 replaced the iPhone XR, all the colors were new or at least different shades of the color previously sold. Even the PRODUCT(RED) iPhone 11 is a different color from the XR.

So, I predict there will be five shades of iPhone 13, and three of iPhone 13 Pro. The Pro models will have matte finish, the others gloss.

And there will be a brand-new color that will be a kind of hero product alongside the black and white options in iPhone 13, and graphite, gold and silver in iPhone 13 Pro.

Apple likes to surprise us with its new shades, from the midnight green of the iPhone 11 Pro to the Pacific Blue in the current model.

Apple has certainly used rose gold before.

I’m just far from convinced it will be the hero color this year.
