With a return to the red carpet comes a desire to up the ante on previous beauty norms; at least for Storm Reid. At last night's premiere of The Suicide Squad in Los Angeles, Reid turned heads with a ponytail made avant-garde by its plaited texture and seemingly ceaseless length.
To further her grommeted Prada set, Reid opted for a high-slung ponytail long enough to fall in a Rapunzelian puddle at her feet. The work of hairstylist Nai'vasha, Reid's sleek updo was tautly bound with wound silver before extending to the floor, the hyperbolic style providing opportunities for scarf-like shoulder draping, an irreverent swing, and a sculptural trail. “The inspiration for Storm’s 13-foot ponytail was whimsical glamour,” says Nai'vasha. “The thought was to welcome fun and drama back to the red carpet. Storm absolutely embodied that.” Prada's of-the-moment Symbole earrings, a wing of onyx eyeliner edged in metallic, and a bright white pedicure completed the coordinated look, which felt somehow effortless despite its evident over-the-top appeal.
The unofficial beauty theme of 2021? Extra—and we are all in need of more.
