Parties, galas, fêtes, get-togethers—whatever you want to call them, they’re integral parts of Hollywood, the fashion world, the arts, and society in general. Events are venues for fundraising, opportunities to drum up buzz around new initiatives and projects, and, above all, a fun reason for fancy people to get dressed up and have their picture taken. Of course, when the pandemic hit, parties were the first thing to go—and their absence was particularly poignant during digital-only fashion weeks, awards shows and art fairs. But with vaccinations on the rise, IRL events are starting to populate the cultural calendar once again. In an effort to make up for lost time, we’re keeping track of the best parties happening right now. Check back often to stay updated on what your favorite celebrities, artists, socialites, fashion plates, and public figures are up to as they emerge from many months of staying at home.

On December 9 Acne Studios celebrated the renovation and expansion of its Greene Street store in SoHo with an unequivocally cool crowd that included Meadow Walker, Ella Hunt, Oyinda, Aquaria and more. The VIP guests partook in bite-sized lobster rolls and champagne as they browsed the house’s spring 2022 collection before settling into an intimate dinner hosted by Acne Studios’ Mattias Magnusson and Mikael Schiller.

It was a family affair at the New York City premiere of The Tender Bar, hosted by the Cinema Society at MoMA. While Ben Affleck couldn’t make it out east for the festivities on December 9, his co-stars Lily Rabe, Tye Sheridan, and Daniel Ranieri celebrated the film, which will be released on December 17. It’s been a while since the average Nordstrom store showcased one of their classic piano players. However, in New York City, on Decemeber 3, department store enlisted the talents of John Legend to play some of his hits (and some well-known holiday jingles, too, of course) for the crowd, which included Brooke Shields and Natasha Lyonne, Dominique Jackson, Nicole Ari Parker, Tituss Burgess, and more. Above, Shields and Lyonne pose together at John Legend’s “A Legendary Holiday” event at Nordstrom.

Lorde sang a selection of her hit songs on Thursday night in New York City at the Guggenheim museum, during Dior’s 2021 Guggenheim International Gala. While performing songs like “Buzzcut Season,” the New Zealand singer was accompanied by a live band—and wore a sparkling gold Dior suit to bring a healthy dose of shine to her colorful set.

On Wednesday, November 17th, Grand Marnier and Law Roach hosted a pop-up experience at Studio 525 NYC to celebrate a newly inked partnership between the liquor brand and stylist of the moment. Attendees sipped on Roach’s custom cocktail, The Provocateur—a mix of Grand Marnier, tequila, ginger, lime, and turmeric. “This drink basically represents my day from start to finish,” Roach told W. “I usually start my morning with ginger tea with citrus and turmeric and I end the night drinking tequila socially.” While enjoying the cocktail, guests participated in an exclusive tasting of Grand Marnier’s portfolio of liqueurs and had the opportunity to create a custom scent inspired by the brand. There was also plenty of time to congratulate Roach on his latest achievement—the CFDA Style Icon Award given to his longtime client, Zendaya, just last week. “It was a dream come true,” he said. “I have been working toward that for ten years. It was a really beautiful night.”

To celebrate the US debut of its Reflections of Nature High Jewelry Collection, De Beers Jewellers hosted a cocktail reception at its Madison Avenue boutique where the likes of Olivia Palermo, Tina Leung, Natasha Poly, Nina Agdal and more gathered among the magnificent array of natural diamonds, and even tried some pieces on for size. The November 17 event was deejayed by Mei Kwok and also served as a toast to the jeweller’s ongoing partnership with the New York Botanical Garden.

On Tuesday, November 16th, Giorgio Armani hosted an intimate cocktail party in partnership with W at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida to celebrate the launch of their Spring 2022 Limited Edition collection. Guests, including the stylist Kate Young, above, sipped grapefruit fizzes, snacked on miniature croque monsieurs and grooved to Italo Disco hits while they perused a poolside pop-up shop featuring luxurious cashmere and silk knits, crisp cotton trousers and sophisticated sheer blouses—the perfect capsule wardrobe for a seaside holiday. The pop-up, which also features exclusive colorways of the classic Prima bag, will be open through Friday, November 19.

On November 16th, influencers, models, and young actresses gathered on the 67th floor of a Manhattan Financial District skyscraper to celebrate the launch of Miu Miu’s newest collection, Miu Miu Nuit. The beloved Italian brand, worn by “It” girls everywhere and currently the center of the micro-mini skirt discourse, transformed the residential rooftop into Miu Miu Nuit Club, where Anna Sophia Robb and Emma Roberts sipped on Miu Miu-themed cocktails (Miu York seemed to be the fan favorite), Lupita Nyong’o and Ziwe took in the impeccable city views, and Paloma Elsesser danced to a DJ set from Rainey Qualley.

On Saturday, November 13, Juergen Teller, Dovile Drizyte, and W magazine editor in chief Sara Moonves hosted a dinner for their closest kin—both literal and figurative—celebrating the photographer’s new Rizzoli book, Donkey Man and Other Stories: Editorial Works Volume 1. Lynn Hirschberg, Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Teller’s creative partner Drizyte, Justin Vivian Bond—who stars in the latest Loewe campaign shot by Teller—Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough, and Waris Ahluwalia were among the guests at the event, which doubled as a celebration for Teller and Drizyte’s return to New York City following their summertime wedding in Italy.

On Wednesday, November 10th, Hermès showed designer Nadège Vanhée-Cybulski’s take on eveningwear. The elegant, pared-down looks from the maison’s spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection—which included crop tops done in lambskin, column dresses studded with pearls, and frocks with bustiers—were shown at Frank Sinatra’s former residence in the San Fernando Valley. The filmmaker Miranda July described each look as it came past her down the runway, even pausing to give one model a sensual kiss.

On Thursday, November 4, an intimate group of downtown darlings including Eli Brown and Evan Mock, pictured here, joined the artists and photographers Gray Sorrenti and Sebastian Faena for the launch of their new EP, Save Your Life. The event was held at the private, members- and invite-only lounge Cipriani Socialista.

Faena and Sorrenti performed songs from the EP live for members of the Sorrenti family and Stevie Wonder’s son, Kailand Morris. The vibe was entirely casual, with some guests seated on the floor.

Rebecca Dayan, who played Elsa Peretti in Netflix’s Halston miniseries, was also in attendance.

On November 3, Emily Ratajkowski was joined by Ziwe, Moses Sumney, and Kristine Forseth to celebrate the release of her forthcoming book of essays titled My Body. The event, which was thrown in partnership with Tory Burch at the brand’s Mercer Street store in Soho, also boasted appearances from Tommy Dorfman and Karlie Kloss, as well as models Raven Leilani and Lisa Taddeo, who hosted a conversation with Ratajkowski in which they discussed the model’s new book.

If Hollywood wanted to revive the Night at the Museum franchise, perhaps it could move the action about twenty blocks down to Bergdorf Goodman for “Night at the Department Store.” It would be a world where mannequins came to life, spirits roamed the couture collection floor, and Chloë Sevigny and Ella Emhoff were just there, hanging out. Of course, they might have to buy the rights to the idea from Marc Jacobs, who threw an intimate after-dark tour full of spectral surprises through the famed store on Thursday night, culminating in a dinner. The fête was all in celebration of Jacobs’s and Bergdorf’s recent pact that will see the store become the exclusive retailer for the designer’s runway collections.

Sansho Scott/BFA.com

Guests including Anna Sui, Kim Petras, Hailey Benton-Gates, and Amelia Gray Hamlin filtered into the ground floor of the store at about 8 o’clock pm. Between mingling and sipping flutes of Champagne, guests were given mini-Maglite flashlights and tasked to hunt around for envelopes scattered among the handbag selection. We were told it would all make sense later.

Sansho Scott/BFA.com

RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Scarlet Envy suddenly appeared and led guests up to the second floor to introduce a special burlesque act: Brooklyn performer West Dakota doing an energetic lip sync to a classic Ella Fitzgerald scat number.

Sansho Scott/BFA.com

From there, the Maglites led guests to the fourth floor, where they were greeted with a sound bath and tarot card readers (one of whom was wearing an Anna Sui caftan, which the designer herself instantly recognized). Turns out, Tarot cards were inside the envelopes from earlier, and the readers explained their mystic meaning. After hearing her fortune, one guest wondered if her card had anything to say about a man in her future. Unfortunately, a single card didn’t have all the answers.

Sansho Scott/BFA.com

Finally, it was up to the restaurant on the seventh floor for dinner, but there were a few more surprises in store. Mannequins wearing Jacobs’s latest collection were stationed on the perimeters of the room—but to many guests’ surprise, some came to life throughout the evening, revealing themselves as performers in white morphsuits.

Sansho Scott/BFA.com

The events of the night, as it turns out, may have been more than Halloween appropriate, but were actually imagined as a celebration of the ‘lightness coming through the dark’ inspiration behind Jacobs’s latest collection.

On October 26, Armani returned to Dubai for the first time in 11 years to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Armani hotels in Milan and United Arab Emirates city. On Friday, October 22 artist Tschabalala Self collaborated with UGG for her first live performance at Performa 2021 Biennial in Harlem at the Jackie Robinson Park Bandshell, as friends and collaborators of the artist, such as Telfar Clemens (pictured above with the artist), Zuri Marley and Richie Shazam arrived for the show called “Sounding Board.”

BFA/Sansho Scott

Self, who is primarily known for her paintings that examine everyday Black life, chose to explore the interpersonal dynamics of a couple in strife through scenes from a play she has written and directed called “Sounding Board,” because “couples appear a lot in my painting practice and in some ways, a couple can be a metaphor for one individual,” she explained after the performance, during a celebration at Red Rooster. “It’s like the interior self versus the exterior self. But it also can represent two people, and create a dialog between a pair, or another interpretation is that it’s an internal dialog in one person’s mind.” The artist chose to collaborate with UGG for the stage performance’s costumes because she needed shoes for the characters, so they worked together to outfit everyone in pieces from the upcoming UGG x Tschabalala Self collaboration, which will debut in Spring 2022. “I knew I wanted this project to be fully aestheticized, and when UGG reached out, it was the perfect opportunity to push the costume element further because they can produce shoes,” she went on. The artist applied some of her own patterns to some of the classic boot silhouettes, as well as outerwear. The checkerboard is especially important to Self, as it is a motif that she uses in her paintings, and also has some laid down on the floor in her studio. “There’s a duality to the checkers, which is in the play as well,” she said.

BFA/Sansho Scott

Self was joined at Red Rooster for an intimate dinner with model Chanel Iman (pictured above), artist Marilyn Minter, and director and chief curator at The Studio Museum in Harlem Thelma Golden. “It was great to bring everyone uptown,” Self said. “We had a great, beautiful cultural experience in Harlem, and to be able to celebrate my art practice here—Harlem is my real muse.”

On Tuesday, October 19, the classical pianist and musician Chloe Flower presented two original songs she’d written exclusively for Krug in celebration of the Champagne brand’s latest release, Les Creations de 2008—arguably the most anticipated release in the world of fine spirits. Guests were treated to the Krug 2008 and Krug Grande Cuvée 164th Edition variations, paired with Flower’s musical arrangements.

“I knew I wanted to do something radical on the red carpet from the beginning. I grew up watching Joan Rivers and Steve Kmetko host the E! Red carpet when things were really weird on the red carpet,” Schiaparelli designer Daniel Roseberry told us Tuesday evening inside the brand’s new store space inside Manhattan’s iconic Bergdorf Goodman. “The stylists and the stars who have gravitated towards the house are the ones who have wanted to shake things up and push boundaries.” Mission accomplished. This year alone, Schiaparelli has been responsible for statement-making outfits worn by the likes of Bella Hadid at Cannes, Lady Gaga at Joe Biden’s Inauguration, and Jeremy O. Harris at the Tonys. So, the opening of the boutique, Schiaparelli’s first store outside of Paris since the house was re-launched in 2012, felt like something of a victory lap.

Madison McGaw/BFA.com

Stars like Paloma Elsesser, Julia Fox, and Richie Shazam came out to fete the opening on Tuesday night. The space itself was designed by Roseberry and the architect Daniel Romualdez with nods to both current house codes and Elsa Schiaparelli herself. “The brief was sort of a surrealist salon,” said Roseberry. “We referenced the old Jean-Michel Frank that he did for Elsa: white plaster, wood floors, Schiaparelli gold, black lacquer.” Much like in the clothing, golden representations of the human body (eyes built into clothing racks, a giant tooth place in front, and a bust of Roseberry’s frequent model muse Maggie Maurer on a shelf) are placed throughout.

An intimate dinner at Emilio’s Ballato in Soho on Thursday, September 16th continued a tradition started at Palm Heights, an all-suites boutique hotel in the Cayman Island: Mambo Italiano. Essentially a celebration of two little pleasures almost everyone loves — karaoke and Italian food — guests dined on pasta while being treated to an intimate performance by musician Okay Kaya. The Jagjaguwar-signed musician then opened the floor to anyone who wished to sing. Renditions of “Like a Prayer” and “Jolene” followed.

Fresh of his New York Fashion Week show for his line Luar, designer Raul Lopez, joined guests. His new Ana bag was also spotted amongst the crowd before finding its way onto the arms of Dua Lipa the next week. Photos of the night were captured on a disposable camera by the photographer and director Danielle Levitt.

Jake Brodsky, the executive chef of the resort’s restaurant Tillies, played defacto emcee for the night. Other guests included Chloe Wise, Marjon Carlos, Eric Wareheim, and Pierre Serrao of Ghetto Gastro.
