Love Island star Lucie Donlan has called in police after being bombarded with vile death threats from trolls on social media.
The 23-year-old model and free surfer, from Newquay, was in season 5 of the ITV2 show which aired in 2019.
Her co-stars included Tommy Fury – who she was once coupled up with - Molly-Mae Hague and Maura Higgins, who have all stayed in the spotlight and gone on to earn mega bucks since the show ended.
Lucie, who has gained 1.7 million followers on Instagram since finding fame, told The Sun : “It’s actually been worse since I came out of the villa.”
Now a brand ambassador for surf and swimwear brand O’Neill, Lucie explained lockdown restrictions over the past 18 months haven’t helped matters.
She said: “I think because everyone is just at home on their phones.
“At points I’ve had one [death threat] every day – and it’s the same people, so I have reported them to the police."
Lucie, who is now in a relationship with Luke Mabbott who appeared on the 2020 series of Love Island, said the threats have left her feeling anxious.
She said when she came off the show it wasn't as much of a problem as she was so busy she rarely had time to look after her home.
But lockdown made it harder to escape the comments with people constantly on their phones - which is when the threats began to increase and get worse.
Lucie credits her boyfriend Luke, a 25-year-old heating engineer form Redcar, with getting her through it - and has even described him as "husband material".
The couple got together during lockdown after she slid into his DMs after watching him on last year’s Love Island.
Speaking about life after Love Island, Lucie says she still stays in touch with Maura Higgins, who is great to talk to as she is "so strong".
Maura, 30, who is dating Strictly star Giovanni Pernice, went on to star on Dancing On Ice and was recently announced as the new presenter for Glow Up Ireland.
