Resort 2022 is Teasing Us With Future Getaways

Prabal Gurung has been a staunch advocate throughout the pandemic (and beforehand), using his platform and brand to advocate for Black and Trans Lives, fight Asian Hate, and promote sustainability. The Nepali-born, New York-based designer honors the cross streets of Mulberry and Bayard with a lookbook shot in Chinatown, a neighborhood vastly affected by the pandemic. The contrast of his beautiful gowns against quiet moments in the city continues the conversations about visibility., allowing the glamour of fashion and the real world to coexist. To address ethical consumption, the designer created his collection using recycled, deadstock, or certified sustainable materials, made both in New York and Gurung’s home in Nepal.

Dior's return to lavish resort destinations returns with its Cruise 2022 collection, this time opting for Athens. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri has often referenced goddesses in her work, so choosing the Grecian outpost dedicated to Athena only makes sense. Staged at the Panathenaic Stadium, the house codes were tweaked to honor the city, citing classicism with draped dresses and motifs that look like they belong on an ancient amphora while bringing it into modern-day with sharp tailoring. Oh, and the show closed with a dress that can't not remind you of Bjork.

Gabriela Hearst cites Mexico’s Jipitecas as one of the main inspirations behind her resort collection, whose followers created “La Onda,” a ‘60s counterculture movement that promoted Women’s rights, decriminalization of drug use, and spirituality. The hippie references have always run deep with the Uruguayan designer, interpreted via her signature patchwork leather coats and landscapes of Teotihuacán and Machu Picchu woven onto knitwear.

"As I sketched this collection I was daydreaming of all the things I was looking forward to. Travel. Friends. Dancing," Wes Gordon stated. "I designed resort as your wardrobe for an imaginary 24-hour getaway." According to the playful and opulent nature of this collection, this getaway involves galas and estate garden walks.
