Emma Watson and Tom Felton’s friendship has lasted long past the days they spent together on the Harry Potter set. Between skateboarding and guitar lessons, road trip photo shoots, and the sharing of hilarious memories from their time at Hogwarts, their bond is clearly a strong one — and it's led to some romance rumors swirling around the pair. Tom was recently asked about their relationship in an interview — and while his answer didn’t exactly clear up the speculation, he made it clear that Emma is an important fixture in his life.
“We are something, if that makes any sense,” Tom explained in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “We've been very close for a long time. I adore her. I think she's fantastic. Hopefully she returns the compliment.”
But when it comes to the actual rumors, Tom added, “As far as the romantic side of it, I think that's a Slytherin/Gryffindor thing rather than a Tom and Emma thing.” He went on to talk about Emma being the youngest actor on set — along with the only girl in the core cast — sharing, “You're going to get me teary now, but no, I think she's a fantastic influence on the world.”
It turns out that Tom keeps in touch with lots of cast members, not just Emma (with whom he talks all the time about regular, everyday things). “It is nice that we're in sort of four different corners of the earth and yet when we catch up, it feels like yesterday that this was all going on.”
Tom’s comments about the romance rumors and his relationship with the Harry Potter cast come a few weeks after Emma also addressed speculations surrounding her love life — along with the celebrity rumor mill in general. In a series of tweets last month, the actor wrote, “Dear Fans, Rumours about whether I’m engaged or not, or whether my career is ‘dormant or not’ are ways to create clicks each time they are revealed to be true or untrue. If I have news — I promise I’ll share it with you.”
She went on to explain that if she’s been quiet lately, it’s because she’s passing time amid the pandemic the way most people are — trying to bake bread, spending time at home, and taking care of family members. “I am sending so much love to you, hoping you’re ok and as well and happy as you can be in these strange times,” Emma wrote. “And again, thank you to everyone working so hard to keep us safe and well.”
