Enhypen Is The Tenth K-Pop Boy Band To Hit The Billboard 200

This article is more than 2 years old.

Enhypen has only been releasing music as a group for less than a year, but they have already established themselves as one of the most exciting new acts in not just the K-pop industry, but the entire global music business. The seven-member vocal act’s sophomore EP Border: Carnival was officially released about a month ago, and now it has finally reached several Billboard charts, landing on one very important list in particular. By hitting that specific tally, the band has helped their countrymen reach a notable milestone.

As Border: Carnival arrives at No. 18 on the Billboard 200, Enhypen becomes the tenth South Korean boy band to placed at least one EP or album on the chart, which ranks the most-consumed full-lengths in the U.S. every week. Enhypen is the latest to be inducted into this club, and they join some of the most successful names from their home country.

Leading the way when it comes to South Korean boy bands on the Billboard 200 is BTS, who claim both the highest-charting efforts and the most titles. So far, the septet has seen 13 collections hit that tally, with half a dozen of those reaching the top 10 and five rising all the way to No. 1.

Looking at which South Korean all-male vocal bands have made it to the Billboard 200 most often, Exo comes next, as they sent a quartet of titles to the list. Both Tomorrow X Together (also known simply as TXT) and NCT 127 have pushed a trio of releases to the ranking, while SuperM and Big Bang have thus far collected just two career placements on the roster.

Three additional boy bands from South Korea—Exo-K, Monsta X and NCT—have appeared on the Billboard 200 just once, at least so far.

Border: Carnival hits the Billboard 200 weeks after it first reached Billboard’s World Albums tally, which typically sees some South Korean act ruling. This frame, the EP returns to the summit after not being present on the list last time around.
