People Share The Best Insults They've Ever Received

What's the best insult you've ever received? Novelist Natalie Zed would really like to know.

Everyone is insulted at least once in their lives. Though it can hurt in the moment, over time, a clever insult can become the source of a good laugh. At least, Natalie Zed thinks so.

On Saturday, Zed asked her Twitter followers to share the best insults they'd ever received. The tweet, which now has over 18,000 likes, quickly became a treasure trove of hilarious content, with hundreds of strangers laughing with, and sometimes at, each other.

To get things started, she shared that she'd once been compared to Skrillex by a stranger on the subway.

"On the subway, this guy a few seats over looked at me then said to his friend 'why do all these gamer girls look like Skrillex, man?'" Zed tweeted. "To this day it gives me joy every time I think of it."

compliments aside for a moment: what's your favourite *insult* you've ever received?

A lot of users, like Zed, shared that the best insults they'd ever received came from total strangers.

Nancy Durrant, arts editor at the Evening Standard, was out at dinner when she received one of her favorite insults.

"[I was] Seated next to an elderly male American artist at a dinner. Chatting for maybe 15 minutes. Pause," she tweeted. "He leans back slightly, looks appraisingly at me and says: 'You know, you're actually very attractive. It's not obvious at first.'"

One Twitter commenter found humor in the insult, and responded to Durrant, "Sorry to say this one is genius."

Durrant replied in agreement: "I had a shaved head at the time, which tends to be the first thing you see, and all I could think was 'you know what, that's absolutely true.'"

Another Twitter user shared that he received his favorite insult in response to some advice he once tried to give.

"I'm not about to take advice from someone who looks like they cry when McDonald's forgets to give them sauce with their 20 nug," he was told.

Though he probably doesn't cry when McDonald's forgets his sauce packets, many were quick to say that it would be understandable if he did.

"I would cry," tweeted one supporter. "Dry nuggets, no thank you."

"Ok this person is crazy, that is the MOST valid reason to cry," commented another.

While most users laughed off the sting of a stranger, some shared the insults of their loved ones.

A lawyer shared that his wife accidentally insulted him while praising Chris Hemsworth. He said:

"My favorite insult I ever received was when I told my wife if she had the opportunity to sleep with Chris Hemsworth she had a hall pass and her response was she could never sleep with someone so good looking."

One user replied: "A friend asked me to join the gym with her. She said she'd thought about asking two other friends, but felt she'd be more comfortable with me, because they were too glamorous."

Thousands of people have shared their favorite insults with Zed, and the responses have kept her thoroughly entertained all weekend long.

"This tweet has passed beyond The Veil and I am no longer its mistress," tweeted Zed. "Please know that I am still reading and laughing my a*s off at your hilarity as much as I possibly can, even if I can't respond."
