As the warm weather settles in, you might be feeling an urge to experiment with your beauty and makeup routines; but where to begin? Well, Euphoria’s makeup director Donni Davy is here to help us all out. Those glittery looks that took over the beauty world when the series premiered back in 2019? As an MUA, she was leading the makeup team so it’s safe to say if there’s someone who knows a thing or two about makeup trends, that’s Donni!

Donni is currently working on season two of the HBO series but she talked to Teen Vogue to fill us in on the four buzziest makeup trends we are going to see everywhere this spring and summer – and maybe even on the show? We will have to wait a little bit to find out!

Whether you want to go all out at home and immortalize it on TikTok (probably with the help of a ring light) or you want to take your creations out for a spin, most of these work well with face masks so you can be daring and step outside of your beauty comfort zone while also staying safe!

1. Color Mascara

“I love color mascara and I think it's a great way to make your eyes pop and add color, especially when wearing a mask,” Donni tells Teen Vogue. She also tells us some of her personal favorites are Benefit's Bad Gal Bang in Blue and L'Oréal in Burgundy. Why? Because “absolutely anyone can wear these.”

If you are ready to jump on the color mascara trend, Donni has some tricks. “For an intensified look, fill in your waterline and lash line with an eyeliner pencil that matches the mascara. This is a quick and fun way to add a pop of color without even touching eyeshadow or a makeup brush. For eyeliner, I love the Make Up Forever multi-use pencils. Use a clean finger to blur the line you draw along your lash line for a softer look.”

2. Glazed Donut Look

Hailey Bieber recently said if she doesn't go to sleep looking like a glazed donut, she's not doing her skin care routine right. But the glazed look doesn't need to stay within the confines of skin care and Donni approves.

“I love to create the effect of glowing dewy skin without the skin texture actually being dewy at all,” she tells us. “My favorite way to achieve this on myself and others is by making ‘foundation cocktails.’ First, I'll use a super gentle milky cleanser like PSA Reset Nourishing cleanser, which has medical-grade Manuka honey and yogurt to soothe and brighten the skin. I follow with a moisturizer that I apply immediately to my still damp face. I love Glow Recipe's Watermelon oil-free moisturizer because it makes my skin feel soft, bouncy, and hydrated without a moist finish. I find that when my skin is hydrated but not oily, concealer has a better time sticking to it. If it's a bad acne day, I'll spot-treat my blemish areas with a high coverage liquid concealer that matches my skin perfectly, like the Fenty Pro Filter. After a few minutes of letting my concealer set into my skin, I'll mix up a customized tinted glowy skin concoction. In my hand, I'll combine and blend together a tinted SPF (I love Color Science Sunforgettable Glow), a couple of drops of liquid illuminator (I love Cover FX pearlescent drops), and a few drops of a medium to high coverage foundation like Shiseido Syncro Skin or Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. I'll press this mixture into my skin with a beauty blender. This evens out my skin and gives me an intense dewy glow, but what I love most about this technique is how breathable and light it all feels on my skin.”

3. ‘60s Mod

If you've been watching WandaVision, this trend might interest you. “I've always loved a '60s mod-look and now this is a look that's trending on TikTok,” Donni tells us. It's super easy and wearable. You don't have to create a hard line over your crease if you don't have the time or patience, or draw in bottom lashes à la Twiggy if that might be a little too much for you. I mean I love all of the above, but it's totally possible to achieve this vibe in a more subtle way."

How so you might be thinking? “Think: brushed up brows, a vibrant eyeshadow blended past your crease in a sort of oval shape, line your waterline with a light beige or tan eyeliner pencil, curl your lashes, apply loads of mascara on the top and bottom, and then pinch your lower lashes together with tweezers, creating cute little clumps to give that Twiggy effect,” Donni answers. “For a classic mod look, pair with a beige, peachy pink, or light brown matte or shimmery lipstick. To modernize the lip and add dimension, softly line your lipstick with a brown lip liner.”

4. Monochromatic Makeup

Back in the '00s, we used to match our outfits with our, well, everything. Colorful monochrome looks were a thing and since Y2K is making a comeback it makes sense for fashion trends to trickle down to beauty, too. Enter: the monochromatic lip and eye look combo – as subtle (think pink and browns) or out there (think blue and green) as you wish.

“I've been dipping into Monochromatic looks on my Instagram lately. There's something really fun about matching your eyes and lips, and even your eyebrows too,” Donni says. “The most subtle and universally flattering way to do this would be a light to medium-toned peachy/rosy brown eyeshadow with a similar shade of lip color and blush. If you want to get experimental like me when I hang out alone in my studio, try an olive green, indigo blue, or violet winged liner with matching lipstick. For these types of colors, I'll use a really flattering warm-toned cream blush.”
