I find it sad, and disturbing at the majority of these comments. He has schizophrenia that was undiagnosedat the time and off his meds for a few weeks. Since when did it become the norm to treat the mentally ill as if they deserve to die when they go off the rails?
Mental health awareness is important or these incidents will continue.

Journalistically, I’m not sure this article has value. I wouldn’t have taken a narrative approach — should have been a news story reporting that the regulation is not retroactive. Quote from the guy, maybe, but not the space he was given.

I hope he's sincere and not just angling for an early release. It's right he remain jailed for the parricide, student murders, and wounding of so many.
