Miley Cyrus was left sobbing as she introduced her new dog to the family on Sunday.

The singer, 28, recently mourned the loss of her furry friend Mary Janewho died after a battle with cancer.

Almost two months later, Miley has introduced her new love, rescue pit bull Angel, to the world.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker claimed her cuddly new companion was "delivered" to her by the spirit of Mary Jane.

She explained in her caption she chose Angel's name as a tribute to her late pup, who was by her side for close to a decade.

Miley, who was reduced to happy tears in her snaps, also revealed she can feel the spirit of her late pooch when she spends time with Angel.

In the caption, she began: "Almost two months ago my best friend a rescued pit mix Mary Jane left this world.

"I knew she wasn't gone for good. She had out lived the body she was in but she never said goodbye... with her eyes she whispered 'See you soon Bestie'.

"Mary Jane defined loyalty and would never break a promise. I feel her here with me blessing this new member to my family who's name is Angel because she was delivered to me by one... My Mary."

The Hollywood star revealed Angel is a rescue dog, who was sleeping in a shelter for three months before coming into Miley's life.

"It breaks my heart to know Angel was sleeping on concrete in a shelter for 3 months before finally making it home," she said.

"The stigma and stereotype that surrounds pit bulls tears me in two. This breed is incomparably loving. Just like humans nurture often overrides nature.

"I want to thank @lisachiarelli for her dedication in fighting for the lives of pit bulls & finding me my perfect fit. I am head over heels in love.

"Not sure I will ever sleep again because I can't take my eyes off of her! Her halo shines for all to see and I can't wait to show her off!

"It's pretty cool having an Angel on a leash! She is illuminated by the aura of the late and great Mary Jane. Long live love. It never dies."

The singer then joked: "*ALL THE TEARS YOU SEE IN THIS SLIDE ARE HAPPY ONES*"

In response to Miley's message, Lisa from Frankie, Lola and Friends rescue centre wrote: "It's never about first come, first serve.

"It's about the right fit for the dog and the right fit for the human. Angel and her mama @mileycyrus and her two doggie siblings are the perfect fit."

It comes after the former Hannah Montana star revealed last month that Mary Jane had died almost nine years after she adopted her in 2012.

On Instagram at the time, she shared a sweet tribute.

Miley wrote: "I wrote this song in Malibu years ago on a piano in a house that no longer exists. About my dog Mary Jane who is also gone now. A lot has changed over time. Mostly me.

"Music is my medicine. This song revolves around loss & heartache. Which I am currently experiencing after Mary Jane's passing.

"MJ was a true queen. She wore her grace, dignity & kindness like a crown. She will never be forgotten and will forever be missed. To know her is to love her. It has been my honor being her mom and best friend."
