Emma Willis praised her son for breaking gender stereotypes after a social media storm about his appearance.

The Voice host uploaded an image of nine-year-old Ace which shows off his fabulous long blond hair while wearing a pink crop top.

The youngster's face was concealed by his locks with Emma and Busted singer husband Matt opting not to share images of their children publicly.

After the picture was shared in October, a small number of Emma's followers began to share their confusion about her boy wearing pink.

Now Emma, 44, has hit back and said: "He is very individual, he dresses the way he wants and he’s really happy doing that. Why would I try to suppress that?

“The response was a big eye-opener, because for me, it’s just Ace, he’s my son and that’s the way he’s always been. So it did massively make me start thinking about stereotyping and how bonkers it is that a boy, just because he has long hair and is wearing pink, is mistaken for a girl. "

She spoke about being bewildered and furious in equal measure at the response.

Emma told the Sun : "It is absolutely fascinating… and shocking. I’ve gone down a rabbit hole to be honest, and because of Ace it’s ignited something in me... You should come to the Willis household – I’m the one changing light bulbs and Matt’s the one mopping!”

On Instagram, Emma wrote Emma captioned the post: "Expressing themselves for #childrensmentalhealthweek.

"Raised in exactly the same way, yet all completely unique.

"My teenager before her time, my boss lady baby and my rainbow boy.️

Emma shed some light on how her and Matt raise their kids who have turned out to be "completely unique"

"This week I've watched them discuss and explore their own mental health with their teachers and class mates and I couldn't be prouder.

"I don't remember experiencing anything like this when I was at school but it's so obviously necessary for our kids, so their little minds can start to understand their thoughts, feeling, and emotions and that they feel comfortable expressing them."

Following the 'overwhelming' response about the picture, Emma also went on to reveal that she had raised Ace to be an 'open-minded' individual.

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, she said: "He's a very free and open-minded boy who is like, 'Why do I have to dress in green and blue and grey if I like pink and red and purple? Why is that not okay?'

"We're raising him as an open-minded and inclusive individual."
